Hytale Pre-Purchases Will Fund Next 2 Years of Development
Founders Promise Long-Term Support

Hytale’s creator, Simon "Hypixel" Collins-Laflamme, recently announced on X (Twitter) that Hypixel Inc. has secured funding for the game’s development for the next two years through pre-purchases. Notably, they achieved this feat without opening pre-orders on Steam or other platforms.
In addition to guaranteeing two years of financial support, Collins-Laflamme reiterated his personal commitment to fund the project for ten years. He first made this pledge in a November 2025 blog post on the Hytale website, stating that both he and Hypixel Inc. co-founder Philippe Touchette are committed to funding and developing Hytale for the next decade.
10 Years Passed, 10 More Years Promised

Guarantees of long-term support are a dime a dozen in live-service gaming, but Hytale’s long and tumultuous history adds weight to its developers’ promises. Since its inception in 2015, Hytale’s creators have remained dedicated to the project, navigating delays, an acquisition, and even a cancellation.
“Philippe and I are personally committing funding for the next 10 years,” wrote Collins-Laflamme in a November blog post. “This is our passion project, and we're here to make it last.”
The mid-2025 cancellation of Hytale by Riot Games could have been a sign to cut their losses, but instead, Collins-Laflamme and Touchette doubled down. They repurchased the IP, rehired more than 30 developers, and pushed forward with development. Fans should still be cautious of buying into any verbal assurances, but Hypixel Inc. has thus far shown that they’re in it for the long haul.
Secured Funding Strengthens Commitment to Independence

Now, with costs covered for the next couple of years, the studio’s commitment to fully independent development is looking more like a reality than an optimistic prediction. To add context, many of Hytale’s woes emerged after Riot Games acquired Hypixel Studios in 2020. The developers struggled to migrate engines, meet beta release windows, and marry their own vision for Hytale with Riot’s expectations.
Free from third-party influence, Hytale’s developers have now committed themselves to delivering on the experience they envisioned years ago. In fact, they have completely abandoned the cross-platform engine they migrated to under Riot Games. The Early Access version of the game is based on a 4-year-old build created on their original engine.

“It's the version that feels like what Hytale was supposed to be,” Collins-Laflamme wrote. “We have plans to make [the Legacy Engine] cross-platform later. We are in no rush.”
For players, this means a cohesive experience with updates more likely to be driven by long-term development goals rather than financial pressure, corporate mandates, and external stakeholders. While future outcomes still depend on execution, players can at least have a clearer sense of what to expect as Hytale continues to evolve.
