⚫︎ In an interview with Game Informer, co-director Jason Connell and Ian Ryan shared that they are open to a single-player story DLC for protagonist Atsu despite expressing that a large chapter of her life story is done. "I see it as a chapter is done, but she has so much more in front of her," said Ryan, possibly hinting that there will be more to come. Connell added that they are in a spot where they can listen to feedback and see what their audience wants to know. "Certainly we love Atsu, and we think it's a great character. And just like with Jin, if there's rooms to improve it or to bring some new elements to life or clarity for the narrative’s sake and it falls within what is best for Sucker Punch, then we'll certainly take a hard look at that for sure."

⚫︎ Sucker Punch studio head Brian Fleming recently spoke with UnGeek about Ghost of Yotei and the series as a whole, emphasizing that the franchise’s identity is inseparable from Japan. For Fleming, a Ghost game only makes sense when it revolves around a katana-wielding warrior set against the country’s history and landscapes. Unlike franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, which reinvent themselves by jumping between cultures and eras, Ghost is rooted in Japan’s samurai, and katanas, elements he sees as the very essence of the series.

⚫︎ Sucker Punch Productions took Ghost of Yōtei a step further with its authentic depiction of historical Japan, so much so that even Japanese people (such as the interviewer) could feel how authentic the experience looks and feels. They also dicussed how Ghost of Yōtei's theme color is yellow, which was explained to be a color of significance for protagonist Atsu, who has been through trials and tribulations of different kinds in her life.
⚫︎ As shown in the one-minute teaser trailer, the land of Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) is set to be brought to life through PlayStation 5 technology, featuring stunning 4K graphics, engaging haptic feedback for immersive weapon handling, lightning fast load speeds, and 3D audio to further immerse players into 1600's Japan.

⚫︎ Next on the Ghost of Yōtei weapon gameplay trailer list are the Dual Katanas. Atsu uses them swiftly, slicing enemies cleanly to eliminate them. Every slash of the katana is crisp and punchy, ringing in the air as her foes go down one by one.
⚫︎ As posted on their official X (Twitter), PlayStation drops a quick preview of camping in Ghost of Yōtei, where Atsu can unlock buffs through cooking, rest under the stars, and even meet allies or enemies.

⚫︎ The One Thousand Blades trailer brings in even more footage of the upcoming game, taking Atsu on her vengeful quest across the land of Edo. One thing is for sure is that she will do anything to finish her quest of revenge.

⚫︎ Ghost of Yōtei protagonist Atsu is in no way related to its predecessor's main character, Jin Sakai, said Nate Fox, Sucker Punch co-director. With Ghost of Yōtei set 300 years after the first game, the developers have confirmed that the Tsushima samurai will not be making an appearance in the new installment. "It’s 300 years-plus later. Both endings are valid," Fox said in an interview with MinnMax, adding that Atsu would most likely not even have heard of Sakai.

⚫︎ Players have spotted a long-requested quality-of-life feature in Ghost of Yōtei—quick armor loadouts. Discovered by Reddit user 4M33N on the Ghost of Yōtei subreddit, the feature appears in a screenshot from July’s State of Play, showing a side-menu for armor loadouts accessible via the square button.
While Ghost of Tsushima allowed armor switching, it required navigating through menus, which many players found cumbersome. The addition of quick-swapping aims to streamline gameplay and address a common fan request.

⚫︎ Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new combat system that replaces the stance mechanics of Ghost of Tsushima with a range of distinct weapon types, including the katana, yari, dual swords, kusarigama, and odachi. While each weapon offers advantages against certain enemies, Sucker Punch co-director Nate Fox confirmed in an interview with IGN that players won’t be penalized for sticking to a single weapon.
“The game definitely would like players to learn how to switch weapons when it is appropriate. It is the most efficient way to play,” Fox said, noting that the system supports varied playstyles.

⚫︎ Sucker Punch directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell recently acknowledged the inevitable comparisons between Ghost of Yōtei and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, given their shared setting and AAA status.
While Shadows is set in 1579 in central Japan and has been a strong performer for Ubisoft with an 81 average on OpenCritic, Ghost of Yōtei takes place further north in Hokkaido in 1603. The original Ghost of Tsushima holds a slightly higher score of 84, adding to expectations for its spiritual successor.

⚫︎ Ghost of Tsushima’s successor, Ghost of Yōtei, will feature a range of cinematic modes that let players tailor the game’s look and sound to match their preferred samurai film experience. Revealed during the July 10th State of Play, the game supports multiple audio-visual presets, including Japanese dialogue with subtitles and film-style visual filters.
“We want playing through Ghost of Yōtei to feel like stepping inside of your favorite classic samurai films,” said creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox.
⚫︎ Unlike Jin Sakai, Ghost of Yōtei’s protagonist Atsu isn’t a samurai or ninja—she’s a mercenary who fights dirty and uses whatever it takes to win. Alongside her katana, Atsu wields five dueling weapons: the katana, spear, kusarigama, odachi, and dual katanas, each with unique upgrade paths. Similar to the stance system in Ghost of Tsushima, different weapons are more effective against specific enemy types. The odachi, for example, is ideal for large foes, while the dual katanas excel against spear-wielding enemies.
