Launching On PS5 And PC In 2028
Genigods: Nezha, a Chinese mythology–inspired action RPG from Genigods Lab, was announced on January 30 for PlayStation 5 and PC, with the studio also sharing early details and a trailer ahead of its planned 2028 launch.
The game is set during a chaotic era of ancient Chinese genesis mythology, where players take on the role of the Spirit Pearl—the first life created by Nüwa, Goddess of Life—reborn as Nezha. As the world falls into collapse following Pangu, the Genesis God, slipping into eternal slumber, ten suns scorch the land into a crimson desert and gods wage endless wars that collapses celestial pillars and unleash monsters from the abyss. Against this backdrop of destruction, Nüwa entrusts Nezha with the Heart of the Spirit Pearl, a divine heart infused with sacred water that becomes the source of her power.
Nezha’s journey centers on three objectives: mending the shattered sky with the Five-Colored Stones, uncovering the truth of her own origin, and descending into the Abyss of Return to seal the spacetime rifts consuming the world.
Heaven and Earth Combat

Combat is designed as a "dynamic scale mythic warfare, where battles flow seamlessly between heaven and earth." It appears to be built around constant movement between ground and air rather than fixed, arena-style encounters. Players shift between close-range, grounded combat and fast aerial movement.
The game also places a strong focus on traversal and scale. Players navigate environments by climbing and moving along the bodies of colossal gods, turning massive enemies into part of the terrain itself. One showcased sequence features Nezha ascending the Sun Tree—a bridge between the mortal and celestial realms—with the help of the giant Kuafu, before attempting to shoot down the Nine Suns to halt the world’s devastation.
Combat is inspired by Bruce Lee’s "Be Water" philosophy and the principles of Jeet Kune Do. Often summarized from the phrase "Be water, my friend," the idea emphasizes adaptability, fluidity, and responding to pressure rather than forcing rigid forms, just like water. Jeet Kune Do similarly rejects fixed fighting styles in favor of practical, flexible techniques that change based on the situation. For Genigods: Neszha, this points toward a defensive and reactive playstyle, encouraging players to adjust their approach based on enemy behavior and battlefield conditions.
Turning Chinese Mythology Into an RPG

Erdi Yao, co-founder and head of creative and design at Genigods Lab, expanded on the studio’s vision for this game in a press release, saying "Our mission is to ignite the epic celestial battles of Chinese mythology. In Genigods: Nezha, every skill you cast, every choice you make, writes a new line in an ancient epic—forged in your image. Players will wield the heart of creation, soar between realms, awaken the three-headed and eight-armed form, and step onto the primordial battlefield to mend the shattered heavens. This is not about hearing a story; it is about etching your name into its very fabric."
He added that players will "wield the heart of creation, soar between realms, awaken the three-headed and eight-armed form, and step onto the primordial battlefield to mend the shattered heavens," emphasizing the studio’s focus on player agency within its mythological setting.

The developers have also been clear about what kind of experience the game is aiming to deliver. Genigods: Nezha is a traditional, single-player action RPG with no gacha mechanics, no live-service elements, and no multiplayer features. The project has been described by its creators as a kind of "China’s answer to God of War," with God of War III cited as a major inspiration alongside influences from Elden Ring, Nioh, and Devil May Cry. The studio has also pointed to the success of Black Myth: Wukong from fellow Chinese developer Game Science as an inspiration.
Project to target a roughly 25-hour runtime, it will feature more than 60 enemy types spread across 10 distinct zones. The game will include three different endings, adding replay value for players interested in seeing how different choices affect the outcome. For completionists, earning the game’s platinum trophy is expected to take significantly longer, with estimates reaching up to 50 hours.

It is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, where players can wishlist the game and stay updated ahead of its launch. The developers have also noted that other platforms are under consideration.
