Everything Announced at the Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Tokyo Game Show 2025 Special Stage Event
A Brief Overview of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Square Enix had a dedicated live showcase for their upcoming remaster of the beloved 1997 PlayStation tactical RPG, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The said event was led by Game Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, Co-Director Fumiko Yokoyama, and Producer Shoichi Matsuzawa. Shinnosuke Tachibana, who voices Ramza Beoulve, the game’s main protagonist, joined the three after the initial introductions.
They kicked things off by showing a brief overview of the game’s roots. Final Fantasy Tactics was first released in 1997 for the original PlayStation. The game presented a war-torn Ivalice, where noble houses vie for power and an undercurrent of religious and magical conspiracies threatens the kingdom. Here, Ramza Beoulve becomes embroiled in class strife and supernatural forces tied to Zodiac Stones, which are stones multiple factions are in chase of.

This is the backdrop of the game’s strategic battles in maps with varying elevation. As a remaster, Square Enix introduced features not included in the base game, such as full voice acting (in multiple languages), improved UI, graphical upgrades, and so on. However, players wanting the original experience can still opt for the Classic Mode, which retains the look and feel of the 1997 game while also benefiting from quality-of-life improvements, like auto-save and higher resolution support.
Later in the panel, the developers rhetorically asked if the game is worth revisiting for veteran players and worth playing for newcomers, to which they answered with a slide that shouted a resounding "Of course!"
In-Depth Talk With Ramza’s Voice Actor, Shinnosuke Tachibana

As Ramza’s voice actor, Tachibana shared during the stage event that players will be able to watch Ramza’s growth throughout the game, and that he hopes players will tune in to his story and give him support. These changes are reflected in how he voice-acted his lines, the character gradually growing into a manlier version of himself. He also expressed how engaging the story was while he went through the script, noting its serious themes and the trials and tribulations Ramza goes through.
Tachibana and co-director Yokoyama also shared the difficulties they went through while recording, citing hellish schedules in 4 months, recording for three hours straight early in the morning, and more. Yet, they all laughed about it afterwards, seeing how it all resulted in a well-put-together game.
The voice actor was also asked who his favorite character was besides Ramza, to which he answered he likes strong characters with equally strong personalities, such as Argath, and especially Wiegraf, whose story was compelling.
Final Fantasy Tactics Gameplay Preview

Yokoyama then took the stage to showcase the gameplay through a combat scene in the Zeirchele Falls (Zirekile Falls in Japanese), where characters Delita and Ovelia are fleeing, only to run into trouble with knights from the Order of the Northern Sky. Ramza, Agrias, and company eventually catch up, and the battle ensues.
The gameplay showcased various abilities from the Monk, Black Mage, White Mage, and the exclusive Holy Knight class, taking down the enemies with grace. Then, it ended with a resounding victory, with the Black Mage as the MVP of that particular battle.
Ending on a happy note, the special stage event concluded with a few more messages from the guests, and a friendly reminder that the game will be releasing in two days, urging fans and eager players to look forward to it.
Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles is set to release on September 30, 2025 (October 1, 2025 for Steam) on Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. To stay up to date with the game, check out our article below!
