Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Arrives September 30, 2025
A Timeless Classic Brought Back to Life

For decades, Final Fantasy Tactics has held a revered place in the hearts of strategy RPG enthusiasts. Today, during the PlayStation State of Play for June 2025, Square Enix announced that this beloved classic is making its return as Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, set to launch on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch 2, the original Switch, and Xbox Series X|S on September 30, 2025.
Francis Santos, Marketing Director for Square Enix North America in their press release on the PlayStation Blog, stated that the development team has crafted two distinct versions within The Ivalice Chronicles to cater to every player’s preference: an "enhanced version" and a "classic version," both included in the package.

The enhanced version brings the 1997 title into the modern era with a host of improvements to the original. It features "fully voiced dialogue, an optimized and updated UI, graphical improvements, and a number of quality of life features, including the more accessible ‘Squire’ difficulty setting." As per Square Enix’s press release on their website, there will also be an auto-save function, the ability to confirm unit turn order, a tactical view for scouting the battlefield, and a fast-forward option.
The voice cast includes an all-star lineup, featuring new and returning Final Fantasy actors. Joe Pitts plays Ramza and Gregg Lowe plays Delita, but the game also features special cameos from Final Fantasy VII Remake stars Cody Christian (Cloud Strife) and Briana White (Aerith Gainsborough).

For purists and those yearning for nostalgia, the classic version faithfully recreates the original 1997 PlayStation experience, complete with its graphics and gameplay. This version integrates the renowned War of the Lions translation, widely considered the definitive script, and also includes some quality-of-life features like auto-save while staying true to almost every other aspect of the original.

Subtle Hints Before the Event

Rumors surrounding Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles have been around for quite some time, as Final Fantasy director Naoki Yoshida mentioned in an interview with The Gamer in April 2024 that it's probably time for a new Tactics game to come out. This was accentuated with reliable reporter Jason Schreier from Bloomberg as he commented in a Subreddit on June 2024 that "The Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is real and happening."
Most recently, Schreier posted on BlueSky on June 4 cryptic messages regarding FF Tactics. A user replied to his post, stating that they are waiting for FF Tactics Remake, to which Schreier responded with "Remaster," implying that the next FF Tactics title is going to be a remastered version.
Meanwhile, fans went on a frenzy as original FF Tactics Director and Writer Yasumi Matsuno retweeted the official PlayStation Japan's post on the upcoming State of Play. He then immediately deleted his retweet, but fans were quick to take a screenshot of his post. This further ignited the possiblity of FF Tactics Remaster being announced at the June 4 State of Play.
