Maximing Switch 2
Final Fantasy 7 (FF7) Remake Intergrade is coming soon to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, and Director Naoki Hamaguchi said that they have "reached the highest point in terms of graphical quality combined with a stable frame rate" for its Switch 2 port.
In an interview with VGC on October 24, Hamaguchi shared some insights on how the team optimized the game for other platforms. Earlier last week, Square Enix released a video comparison of FF7 Remake Intergrade to demonstrate the quality of the Switch 2 version, highlighting how closely it matches the graphics of consoles and PC.

Hamaguchi noted that the Switch 2 has great specifications, particularly its memory, which makes it easier to port games made for other platforms, such as PlayStation 5 or PC. However, they needed to put in extra effort on the Switch 2’s handheld mode, as compared to its TV mode, its technical capacity dips.
During an interview with Nintendo Life on October 24, Hamaguchi elaborated on the efforts they made to ensure that the Switch 2 port of FF7 Remake Intergrade is up to par with other platforms.
"As we'd expected, the frame rates in handheld mode were perhaps a little below where we wanted them. So we had to do some optimisation to ensure the frame rate was where it needed to be and the visuals were what fans were expecting, and I think we got a really good result from how we approached it," he said.

Additionally, their main focus was making sure that iconic characters such as Cloud and Sephiroth would look right and not be inferior to how they are presented in other platforms.
"So once we had that baseline down, we could look at things we could adjust, so things like shadows and the post-processing effect. A lot of this was down to our engineering team, and if you compare the games side-by-side, even in portable mode, they look really close," Hamaguchi stated.
Coming Along Really Well

Aside from the upcoming release of FF7 Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, Square Enix is also working hard on part 3 of the trilogy, with Hamaguchi stating that development is "coming along really well."
He stated that the team is working really hard on part 3 of the trilogy, and explained, "It’s coming along really well. I’ve got in my head the vision now, the gameplay structure, the gameplay experience, the core experience, and it’s looking in a really good state."
Hamaguchi emphasized that fans don’t need to worry about the game as it will be exactly what they imagined it would be. "You really can look forward to that climax of the series, and it’ll be exactly what you want it to be. So don’t worry about that. It’s coming, and it’s just as good as you think it is. I’m very confident in the game that I’m making there," he said.
Making Part 3 More Concise

While Hamaguchi previously mentioned that FF7 Remake part 3 will be "more concise" compared to previous titles in the series, he elaborated on how exactly the team will create the perfect pace for the game.
For context, some players thought that certain areas and aspects of FF7 Rebirth were dragged out for too long. Although Hamaguchi disagreed with these comments, he said that all feedback will be considered for the third game.
The director stated, "However, for the third game, in terms of what I said about that and the way I’m looking at that is about improving the pacing and making sure that, to achieve an even greater level of immersion in the game, we make sure that the story developments move forward in a fairly speedy manner and with the right pace essentially, rather than feeling slow and drawn out."

His initial comments began to stir concerns among fans, noting that this could mean the game might be shorter, or some story content would be diminished or removed altogether.
Hamaguchi clarified, "It’s about making sure the pacing feels right, it’s not about cutting out content, it’s making sure that it feels right, the speed that the story progresses at feels right, and it is fairly quick and feels like you can get through it at a reasonable pace. But it has to feel right, so that’s what I mainly intended to say there."

With more new information regarding the FF7 Remake Part 3’s development coming to light, fans are expecting the game’s release window to be announced soon, especially with Hamaguchi stating that they are planning to deliver the game in the "not-too-distant-future."
Furthermore, the team’s emphasis on the game having great quality and being in a good state bodes well for the epic conclusion of the Remake trilogy. It also helps that Hamaguchi previously stated that its ending "will be loved by everyone."
