Multi-awarded MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV revealed their partnership with soda brand Mountain Dew (stylized Mtn Dew) in celebration of the upcoming release of Dawntrail. Plenty of prizes are up for grabs with 56 in total to choose from, including the exclusive Mountain Zu mount. This green-hued, citrus-smelling version of the monstrous zu "was created by Hannish alchemists after they were fed a specially concocted brew" aimed to tame them, says the official Mtn Dew Gaming website. Players can get their very own Mountain Zu for only 600 points.
Besides in-game prizes like the Mountain Zu, different Metallic dyes, and the "Sparkling Citrus Refreshment," players can also redeem a plush Nu Mou, Fuath, and Major General; Minion Figurines of Alisaie and Alphinaud, Xbox Gift Cards, Drop x MTN Dew x Final Fantasy Keycap Sets, among others. Some of the major prizes with point values of 25,000 to 35,000 are Xbox consoles, Mountain Dew Gaming Chair, and an Elgato x Mountain Dew x Final Fantasy Stream Deck.
The event was broadcasted in the Letter from the Producer Live LXXXI Twitch stream with FFXIV Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) and Global Community Producer Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi, followed by official posts on Twitter (X) by both FFXIV and Mtn Dew Gaming. This limited collaboration is available for US players only, and claiming for in-game rewards ends on July 14th. Other physical rewards are claimable until January 5th, 2025.
Following the announcement on stream, Director Yoshi-P couldn’t help but chuckle. He made a comment on how amusing the Mountain Zu = Mountain Dew joke was, calling it a dad joke. Apparently, the US Square Enix team came up with the name, and it certainly is a pun to remember.
"Mountain Dew and Final Fantasy 14 Online have partnered up to keep you refreshed and energized this summer," says Murouchi. With a hot summer coming right up, this seems like the perfect way to get through as the Dawntrail release nudges closer.
On FFXIV’s Next Expansion Pack
FFXIV’s newest expansion pack Dawntrail is set to release on July 2nd and introduces a whole variety of new features that were previously announced, including two new jobs called the Viper and the Pictomancer, and a new playable race: the Female Hrothgar.
