FATAL FRAME 2: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE Gets Demo and Full Launch on March
Cosmetics Collaboration with SILENT HILL f
FATAL FRAME 2: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE unveils a new trailer showcasing Camera Obscura’s features and the dynamic between the two protagonists, with a free playable demo arriving a week before launch on March 5. Koei Tecmo also revealed a special collaboration with SILENT HILL f—the 2025 entry to the classic psychological horror series—which will feature free downloadable costumes.
SILENT HILL's X (formerly Twitter) post and FATAL FRAME 2: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE's website announcement teased collaboration cosmetics available as free downloadable content. Nothing specific has been disclosed at the moment, but fans expect the school uniform Hinako wore in SILENT HILL f to carry over to Mio or Mayu's wardrobe. Many are also looking forward to the possibility of Hinako wearing Mio or Mayu's outfits in SILENT HILL f.
Last year, SILENT HILL f drew inevitable comparisons with the FATAL FRAME. This may be due to SILENT HILL f’s release being in close proximity to the Nintendo Direct on September 12, 2025, which was when the FATAL FRAME 2 remake was first announced.
From there, fans could not help but notice the similar Japanese horror aesthetics and young female protagonists between the two games. Nonetheless, several players defended that SILENT HILL f starkly differs from FATAL FRAME in terms of gameplay.
Remaking the 2003 PS2 Game with Its Signature Camera Obscura
Retelling its original 2003 title, the upcoming horror adventure game follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu as they try to survive in the wraith-infested Minakami Village. The player (Mio) uses the Camera Obscura game mechanic to exorcise ghosts that wish to harm them, all while protecting her older sister.
Aside from a complete overhaul of the graphics, sound, gameplay system, and controls, the remake introduces a brand-new mechanic: holding hands with Mayu to heal from damage. "This allows players to feel the sisters' bond more deeply throughout the story," the game’s website reads.
Features of the Camera Obscura include the following: Paraceptual Filter to identify and follow the traces left behind by a person, Exposure Filter to expose lost objects and hidden paths, Radiant Filter to open new routes previously sealed by the ghosts, and Fatal Frame's timed shots to damage enemies.
