Elden Ring DLC Tops Metacritic Score Charts
Early Reviews Praise Narrative Construction and Storytelling
Elden Ring's upcoming expansion DLC has garnered an impressive 95 Metascore based on 56 critic reviews, surpassing even The Witcher 3's highly acclaimed expansion, Blood and Wine, which previously held the top spot with a Metascore of 92. Despite not being released yet, Shadow of the Erdtree is already making waves in the gaming community.
FromSoftware, the developer behind Elden Ring, has a strong reputation for producing high-quality expansions, but this latest achievement sets a new benchmark. Shadow of the Erdtree not only surpassed The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, but it is also considered FromSoftware's best DLC to date. This is a significant feat given the studio's history of successful expansions, including Bloodborne: The Old Hunters and the various expansions for the Dark Souls series. It also outshone other blockbuster premium titles like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragon's Dogma 2, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Shadow of the Erdtree will feature an expansive new map, with early reviews indicating that the DLC's new map is heavy on density and interconnectivity, offering players a rich and immersive experience. Reviews also highlighted the narrative depth of the DLC which offers more character-driven story questlines. Shadow of the Erdtree comes out on June 21, 2024.
