December 4

⚫︎ Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows DLC is a little bit harder than the base game, but still offers a fair challenge says Director Junya Ishizaki. FromSoftware also made efforts to address the balancing issues of the game prior to the DLCs release.

⚫︎ FromSoftware director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged the studio’s long-running “swamp obsession” meme ahead of the first major Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC, The Forsaken Hollow. The joke dates back to the 2009 release of Demon's Souls, with swamp zones also appearing in later hits like Bloodborne. Ishizaki told GameSpot the studio has no rule about swamps, but the idea “always seems to already be in there” anyway.

November 12

⚫︎ Elden Ring: Nightreign's first DLC, The Forsaken Hollows, is releasing on December 4, 2025, including two new playable characters called the Scholar and Undertaker, two new undisclosed bosses, and a new location.

The new nightfarer, Scholar, is an academic possessing high arcane mastery and gains significant battlefield advantages through careful observation. The other nightfarer, Undertaker, is an abbess with formidable strength and faith motivated by her mandate to slay the Nightlord. On the other hand, the new "Shifting Earth: The Great Hollow." will feature exotic ruins, sacred temples, ancient towers, and life-draining cursed crystals.

November 10

September 10

August 28

⚫︎ FromSoftware is adding a new high-difficulty mode to Elden Ring: Nightreign called Deep of Night, launching September 11. Designed for veterans, it features tougher enemies, randomized Nightlord encounters, exclusive rewards, and increasing difficulty the deeper players descend, along with new detrimental effects.

August 7

Originally set for release earlier this week, the update will now launch on Thursday, July 31, after 1am PT / 4am ET / 9am BST. FromSoftware also confirmed that the return of the Everdark Sovereign has been postponed until the patch is live.

The delay comes as evacuation orders have been issued in regions including Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Guam, Peru, and the Galapagos Islands. According to the BBC, over 1.9 million people have been urged to evacuate, with a tsunami wave of 1.3 meters reaching Japan’s Iwate prefecture.

July 28

Patch 1.02 will also include UI quality-of-life improvements, such as enhanced filtering options for Relics.

July 21

⚫︎ FromSoftware has confirmed that the next rotation of Everdark Sovereigns in Elden Ring: Nightreign will arrive on July 31, introducing four enhanced Nightlords: Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast, and Fissure in the Fog.

July 9

⚫︎ FromSoftware has confirmed that the current Everdark Sovereigns in Elden Ring: Nightreign will enter another rotation before any new ones are introduced. These tougher versions of existing Nightlord bosses debuted in late June, with Gaping Jaw, Sentient Pest, and Darkdrift Knight appearing weekly.

The trio will now return in rotating pairs, giving players another shot at these high-difficulty encounters ahead of future Sovereign releases.

She also mentioned that the game's world design was inspired from Studio Ghibli's 2001 animated film Spirited Away, which expresses the feeling of an inescapable dream.

June 2, 2025

Developer FromSoftware responded quickly, addressing the problems on PS4 and PS5 in a Twitter (X) post on May 31. They also mentioned an upcoming patch to resolve ongoing concerns by the community surrounding its solo expeditions.

IGN dropped new gameplay footage featuring one of the 8 Nightlords, "Libra, Creature of Night." However, aside from its battle prowess, fans have noticed something about how the devastating goat-like Nightlord looks.

The gameplay revealed that Libra is a madness-inducing boss, afflicting players with the Madness Status Effect which results in health and focus points loss while also stunning them. The footage highlights the importance of team coordination as the Creature of the Night features large area-of-effect attacks and unique patterns.

The ultimate goal is to survive long enough to face one of the powerful Nightlords.

⚫︎ As the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign approaches, FromSoftware has unveiled another playable character, Raider, in a trailer shared on April 15 via Twitter (X). Described as an aging Viking wielding a powerful axe, Raider showcases heavy-hitting combat skills, even taking down a dragon single-handedly. The trailer also highlights his ability to summon a large monolith block, creating elevated platforms that can assist allies—particularly ranged characters—while giving Raider a tactical edge in aerial attacks.

April 9

⚫︎ FromSoftware has released a new trailer showcasing Duchess, one of eight predetermined playable characters in Elden Ring: Nightreign. Unlike its predecessor, Nightreign does not include a character creator, instead featuring eight fixed characters—four of which have been revealed so far.

February 14

⚫︎ Elden Ring: Nightreign will feature bosses from previous Elden Ring and FromSoftware titles, but fans speculating about their lore significance may not need to overthink it. In an interview with GameSpot, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki clarified that the inclusion of these familiar foes is primarily for gameplay purposes.

February 12

⚫︎ In PC Gamer Magazine Issue 405, director Junya Ishizaki revealed that Elden Ring: Nightreign will feature procedurally generated environmental elements such as volcanoes, swamps, and forests. As reported by GamesRadar, these large-scale terrain changes are designed to reshape the game world with each session.

February 2

⚫︎ Elden Ring: Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki has clarified that the game's roguelike features weren’t added to follow industry trends, but rather emerged organically from the development process. Speaking to PC Gamer in a recent issue, Ishizaki explained that the goal was to condense the RPG experience—exploration, character building, and leveling—into a tighter, more focused loop.

January 31

⚫︎ Kadokawa has released Elden Ring: Become Lord II, the second and final volume of the full-color visual comic series. Priced at 3,300 yen (approximately $21.45), the volume is now available for purchase through platforms such as Book Walker and Amazon Japan. The release follows the first volume, which debuted in June 2024, and concludes the story of the Become Lord series.

January 30

⚫︎ With Elden Ring: Nightreign ranking among the most anticipated titles of the year, demand for early access is high—and scalpers are taking notice. As FromSoftware begins sending out confirmation emails for its limited-space Network Test, scheduled for February 11, listings for test access have already begun appearing on platforms like eBay.

Some sellers are attempting to profit by using screenshots of the confirmation emails as proof, despite not yet having access to actual codes. The Network Test offers fans an early hands-on experience with Nightreign, a standalone multiplayer survival action RPG set in the Elden Ring universe. While a full release date has yet to be announced, the test provides a glimpse into FromSoftware’s newest gameplay experiment.

January 10

⚫︎ Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have opened registration for the Elden Ring: Nightreign closed network test, scheduled to run from February 14 to 16 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

January 8

⚫︎ An Elden Ring player known as chickensandwich420 has committed to fighting Messmer from the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC every day with a different weapon—and without taking a single hit—until Elden Ring: Nightreign launches, according to TheGamer. While the original plan was to cycle through bosses across all FromSoftware games, the player opted to focus solely on Messmer due to time constraints, citing their final year of university as a key factor.

January

⚫︎ Elden Ring: Nightreign will not include the iconic player messaging system featured in previous FromSoftware titles, director Junya Ishizaki confirmed in an interview with IGN Japan. While players will still see the ghosts of others, the ability to leave floor messages—often used for guidance, humor, or deception—has been removed due to the game's new structure.

According to Ishizaki, the decision stems from Nightreign’s session-based design, where each playthrough lasts around 40 minutes. With limited time for exploration, the team determined there wouldn't be enough opportunity for players to read or write messages. Set in the procedurally generated realm of Limveld, Nightreign introduces a roguelike format, featuring a three-day progression system and co-op gameplay for up to three players.

⚫︎ In an interview with Famitsu, game director Junya Ishizaki revealed that Elden Ring: Nightreign will include a small number of enemies from the Dark Souls series. These additions reflect the chaos brought into the world by the Night King and align with the game’s thematic focus on disruption. Set in a parallel universe, Nightreign allows FromSoftware to reference its previous titles.

Ishizaki also revaled that the game will feature eight distinct playable characters, each with unique abilities and backstories. A new progression system will unfold the world across three virtual days, with each cycle introducing changes to the map, including new events, enemies, and points of interest. Exploration will also be supported by the Spectral Hawk, a companion designed to help players discover shortcuts and navigate the evolving landscape.

December 17

⚫︎ Elden Ring: Nightreign will feature single-player and three-player co-op modes, but will not support two-player gameplay. In an interview with IGN, game director Junya Ishizaki confirmed the title is designed specifically for solo or trio play, stating that it's one or the other; no duos. Players will be able to team up in groups of three to take on bosses when the network test launches in early 2025.
