August 8

⚫︎ Techland has shared new details on Kyle Crane’s return in Dying Light: The Beast, launching September 19. After a decade of torment, Crane is back.

The team says Crane’s new design reflects his duality, with one side still human and the other warped by the Beast. His scars, veins, and glowing eye emphasize this inner struggle, even carrying over into gameplay. Combat feels heavier, his parkour more forceful, and activating Beast Mode unleashes devastating power. Roger Craig Smith also returns to voice Crane, delivering what Techland calls his most intense performance yet.

August 8

⚫︎ Bover the Beaver makes an appearance in his own trailer, giving a tour of his Safe Zone in the neck of Castor Woods. He's alive and kicking, and happy to have guests over...somewhat. Nevertheless, he's well-prepared and armed for the zombie apocalypse.

August 6

⚫︎ Following its recent delay to September, Dying Light: The Beast has received a new trailer focused on showcasing the game’s heightened brutality. Developer Techland released the teaser as a visceral highlight reel, emphasizing the variety of violent ways players can dispatch the infected.

According to franchise director Tymon Smektała, the extreme gore reflects protagonist Kyle Crane’s rage after a decade of imprisonment and experimentation. “We’ve dramatically increased the body horror to give you this feeling of fighting for pure survival and Kyle’s hunger for revenge,” Smektała said. The trailer highlights Crane’s rage-fueled powers, delivering a gruesome take on survival horror meant to match the game’s darker tone.

While firearms were present in the original Dying Light, players largely favored melee combat. Smektala stated the new game aims to make gunplay feel “on par” with melee, offering a more cohesive combat experience.

July 30

⚫︎ Techland's upcoming title Dying Light: The Beast will include firearms that feel more balanced and satisfying compared to previous entries, according to franchise director Tymon Smektala. In an interview with GamesRadar, Smektala acknowledged the franchise’s “complicated” relationship with guns, which have often been overshadowed by its melee-focused gameplay.

July 28

⚫︎ Techland has announced a short delay for Dying Light: The Beast, pushing its release from August 22 to September 19, 2025. The developer stated that the extra time will be used to further polish the game, aiming to deliver the best Dying Light experience to date. They also confirmed that Dying Light: The Beast will not feature virtual currencies or microtransactions.

Unlike its predecessor, Dying Light: The Beast will not offer branching story paths, according to franchise director Tymon Smektała. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Smektała explained that the game’s final mission will leave players with “no choice,” allowing for a more defined and canonical narrative.

July 22

⚫︎ Techland has revealed that Dying Light: The Beast will feature a 20-hour main story, with side content adding another 20 to 30 hours of gameplay. Franchise director Tymon Smektala shared the details in an interview with GamesRadar, emphasizing the game's expanded scope and strong market presence.

Smektala noted that while the project began with more modest ambitions, it evolved significantly—especially with the return of original protagonist Kyle Crane. The developer is now treating The Beast as a spiritual successor to Dying Light 2, describing it as “essentially Dying Light 3.”

July 21

⚫︎ Techland has released a new trailer for Dying Light: The Beast, offering a satirical look at its upcoming setting, Castor Woods. Framed as a tourism ad hosted by cheerful mascot Bober the Beaver, the trailer quickly descends into chaos as the region’s zombie outbreak takes center stage.

July 7

⚫︎ Dying Light: The Beast may feature plenty of bloody action, but it’s far from a mindless zombie brawler. Building on the series' signature parkour and melee combat, the upcoming entry introduces new layers of strategy and challenge to its core gameplay loop.

While many zombie games thrive on simple hack-and-slash mechanics, The Beast aims to evolve the formula with smarter enemies and expanded combat systems. Franchise director Tymon Smektala shared in a recent interview that Techland is pushing the series forward by deepening combat and refining mechanics introduced in Dying Light 2, including improved enemy AI, more responsive weapon interactions, and the return of firearms.

July 1

⚫︎ Techland is taking a different approach with Dying Light: The Beast, focusing on immersion and density rather than sheer map size. In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, franchise director Tymon Smektala emphasized that the new entry won’t try to rival massive open-world games like Cyberpunk 2077 or GTA V in terms of scale.

“Open worlds are not about scale,” Smektala said. “They’re about your feeling of being there.” He described The Beast as one of the “most dense open-world games” the studio has ever made, aiming for a tightly packed environment full of meaningful encounters and layered design.

Reflecting on Dying Light 2, Smektala acknowledged that its ambition may have diluted the survival-horror roots that defined the original. While the sequel performed well commercially, he admitted that focusing on accessibility and AAA expectations may have alienated some longtime fans. The Beast appears poised to strike a new balance, recapturing the intensity and atmosphere that made the franchise stand out.

April 4

⚫︎ As Dying Light: The Beast approaches release, Techland is encouraging fans to revisit the original Dying Light, saying the upcoming standalone title will help bridge the gap between the franchise’s two distinct entries.

Franchise director Tymon Smektala explained that The Beast is designed to unify the series’ timeline and appeal to fans of both games. “For the hardcore part of our community, Dying Light 2 is not as good as Dying Light 1,” Smektala admitted, citing differences in tone and gameplay.

While the first game leaned into survival horror and a more punishing nighttime experience, its sequel took a more narrative-driven and accessible approach.

February 12

⚫︎ Techland has officially revealed Dying Light: The Beast, a new standalone entry in the Dying Light series that was initially conceived as the second expansion for Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

First mentioned during Gamescom 2024, The Beast grew significantly in scope during development, prompting the studio to evolve it beyond its original DLC plans. The move signals a promising shift for the franchise, offering fans a fresh experience that contrasts with Dying Light 2, and potentially setting a bold new direction for the series' future.
