Death Stranding 2 Easter Eggs and New Narrative
Kojima Self-Inserted Easter Eggs May Make People Cringe

Death Stranding 2 (DS2) is full of surprises with its multiple cameos and easter eggs, and Director Hideo Kojima inserted a few about himself that may make people cringe. In an interview with GameSpark on June 26, Kojima revealed that these easter eggs were much to his staff’s reluctance.
As the creator of the series, Kojima had his fingerprints all over DS2, down to the cameos such as his favorite VTuber Usada Pekora becoming a Prepper in the game. Beyond that, he also included other things related to him, which he admittedly may make other people cringe.
Kojima has had a history of including several things related to him in his previous works. He appeared multiple times in the Metal Gear series, such as a "ghost" in Metal Gear Solid, a laughing portrait in Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, an operative in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, and so much more.

For DS2. he asked his staff to add these Kojima-related Easter eggs to the game, but they often responded jokingly, "Huh?" as if they weren’t hearing him. Kojima also gave a hint and said (machine-translated), "If you look up at the sky at night at the hot spring, you can see a very beautiful sky. If you zoom in there, various things will come out, so please play with them."
As of writing, the game has been out for less than a week, and fans have discovered multiple celebrity appearances outside of the main cast, such as the Ghost in the Shell Director Mamoru Oshii as The Pizza Chef, Train to Busan Actor Ma Dong-seok as Samson Hook, and much more. Kojima may have more things hidden in the game, and fans should keep an eye out for these "cringeworthy" surprises.
Depicting "Loneliness in a Group"

Beyond the addition of cameos and Easter Eggs, DS2 takes on a new narrative based on protagonist Sam Porter Bridges’ new experiences and environment. Compared to the first game, where he took on the journey alone for most of the time, Sam has a mothership called the "Magellan" to come home to. Kojima said that this opens up more interactions with the characters, deepening their bonds with each other.
He mentioned that in the first Death Stranding, they were restricted to including 3-4 characters gathering in a room due to technical limitations. In the sequel, they pushed it to 5-6 people, which gives them more chances for dramatic expressions.
"Having a house and having a variety of characters brings up the tricky issue of human relationships. I am also trying to depict a new kind of ‘loneliness’ that is born from being in a group, such as fighting with each other and disagreeing with each other," Kojima explained.
Death Stranding 2 Final Trailer on Launch Day
Alongside the game’s release on June 26, PlayStation revealed a final trailer that showcased an overview of what fans can expect from the game. The video welcomed fans to an interaction between Sam and BB-28 while the popular "Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head" soundtrack played in the background.
The trailer continued to show the game’s narrative and some gameplay snippets, which emphasized its variety, diversity, and Kojima’s signature eccentric style. It also introduced the game’s star-studded cast, including actors such as Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Troy Baker, and Luca Marinelli, just to name a few.
Despite Kojima’s woes with the game’s initial positive reviews and finding the game "too mainstream," he said that DS2’s launch made him very happy.
