Death Stranding 2: On The Beach Overview
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach (abbreviated as DS2: OTB, or simply as DS2) is the sequel to Hideo Kojima’s action adventure game that was released back in 2019. As of writing, the sequel is slated for a 2025 release for the PlayStation 5. The title was heavily teased by Kojima years before it was revealed in the 2022 Game Awards, where a teaser for the game was presented. The plot for the sequel had already been completely written back in 2019 before the original was released, but Kojima had entirely revised its events due after the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Many fans pointed out the similarities between the first game and the pandemic, which eventually prompted Kojima to not want to "predict any more future."
DS2 continues years after the events of the first game, where Sam Porter Bridges is once again called into action, this time under the civilian outfit of Drawbridge. Founded by Fragile, Sam is recruited into the organization to connect the rest of the post-apocalyptic world to the United Cities of America(UCA). Sam returns to the dangerous outskirts of civilization to travel to distant cities to establish connections, as well as to deliver valuable packages. He can either travel by foot, or utilize any vehicles he acquires or ziplines he’s constructed in order to make his travels more efficient.
However, the world still teems with danger, such as the mysterious Beached things (BTs) that lurk the lands. Raiders and hostile factions also roam around, such as Higgs, who now brandishes a guitar that can shoot out lightning. Sam must survive by avoiding, fighting, and surviving any threats that may come to harm him or his mission.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach Gameplay
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is an open-world action adventure game with touches of a walking simulator that will iterate over the core gameplay fundamentals of its predecessor. Playing as Sam Porter Bridges, players balance packages on their person to carefully deliver them across barren landscapes and wastelands. Alongside that, they travel and connect isolated cities together in order to form a network so communication and travel lines can be established. Players will spend most of their time travelling the open-world filled with hostile BTs and raiders in order to safely reach their destination points.
Sam has access to both lethal and non-lethal weapons, allowing him to merely subdue hostiles should they be too important to eliminate. Players will have the choice of whether to use either type of weapon throughout the game as they see fit, similar to the Metal Gear Solid series that was created by Kojima as well.

The announcement trailer was unveiled at The Game Awards 2022. The video featured stunning new footage of the Death Stranding universe years after the events of the first. Fragile is seen in a montage taking care of BB-28, but ultimately losing them after being chased by a hooded figure. Sam then speaks with a tearful Fragile as they board the main Drawbridge ship. The trailer ends with Higgs singing the theme of missing baby, BB-28.

⚫︎ Hideo Kojima had completed the story for Death Stranding 2 in 2019, but entirely revised everything after he had experienced the COVID-19 pandemic.
