The Blood of Dawnwalker promises a true vampire RPG narrative sandbox experience. Read on to learn more about how much freedom the game gives players and its upcoming gameplay reveal livestream.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Gives Players as Much Narrative Control as Possible
One Major Goal With Multiple Paths
The Blood of Dawnwalker will present players with one major goal to accomplish, but will offer multiple ways to achieve it. As the main protagonist, Coen, players will go through the game as a human by day and a vampire by night, adding complexity and expanding the narrative of the game.
The game’s release window was confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, which was accompanied by a new trailer. Following the announcement, developer Rebel Wolves’ Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz shared some of the key elements of the game in an Xbox Wire post on June 9. He said that they wanted to emphasize player agency and how the game adapts to players’ choices and actions.
Tomaszkiewicz noted that the main goal is to save Coen’s family, but it is up to the players to determine how they will achieve it. Once the prologue ends, the world opens up not only in traversal but also in narrative. "There’s a major goal ahead of you, but many ways to get there," he said.
The game is so non-linear that Tomaskiewicz mentioned the possibility of players not even interacting with other parts of the story. He explained, "You can align with the human rebellion or finish the game without ever meeting them." Players can even fight the main antagonist, Brencis, at any time they choose, approaching the fight however they prefer.
The developers have long boasted about the amount of freedom the game will give the players. In previous reports, they said that Dawnwalker’s dynamic world will adapt to the players’ actions and inaction, and that the game will allow players to kill off major NPCs, which can produce alternate outcomes.
This is a daunting task, but Rebel Wolves made it clear that they are going for Witcher 3 Levels of Quality, given that the team is made up of ex-CD Projekt Red developers who worked on Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. "This open, player-driven approach is what we call the narrative sandbox. It’s the philosophy at the core of our storytelling," Tomaszkiewicz said.

Rebel Wolves announced on Twitter (X) on June 9 that they will be having a Gameplay Reveal Event on June 21 at 12 PM PDT / 3 PM EDT / 9 PM CEST / 4 AM JST on their official Twitch channel.

According to their post, the livestream will last around 45 minutes and showcase 15 minutes of gameplay with a presentation of the game’s features. It will also have developer insights into the game’s magic, traversal, and combat systems, with epic music and more.
Interestingly enough, publisher Bandai Namco posted on its website on June 8 that the livestream will coincide with the summer solstice– "a moment when the Earth’s northern hemisphere experiences the longest day of the year, while the opposite hemisphere undergoes its longest night." This highlights the impact and focus of the game in incorporating the differences between day and night, especially with Coen’s abilities.
The developers themselves are excited to show the world the first chapter of their original dark fantasy saga. "It’s been a pleasure to finally show you more of the game, and I want to thank our community for the incredible support. Back in January, when we first revealed the game, we promised to shed more light on the gameplay this summer—and that moment has finally arrived," Tomaszkiewicz stated.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to release sometime in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
