Cult of The Lamb, Massive Monster’s hit cult-leader simulator, will be receiving a free major update very early into 2024. Read on to learn more about the announcement and how fans reacted to it.
Cult of the Lamb “Sins of The Flesh” Update Coming in Early 2024
As was announced by the game’s official Twitter(X) account, Cult of The Lamb, Devolver Digital’s breakout hit from 2022, will be receiving a free major update. Called "Sins of The Flesh", this upcoming update promises new features and stories for players to enjoy as they amass a cult following through the base game.
Although no official release date was announced, the update was promised to come "very early next year", so players should brush up their ritual chanting by the first quarter of 2024.
The Cult of The Lamb team followed up on their announcement with the promise of further details in the upcoming weeks.
Announcement Sparks Speculation Among Fans
The Tweet’s comments were immediately abuzz with fan speculation and theory-crafting. Fans were quick to joke about the promiscuity of the announcement’s title and its accompanying visuals, which depicted members of the titular cult dancing around a bonfire while nude.
Further fueling the proverbial bonfire, the Cult of The Lamb Team followed up with another Tweet 2 days later, this time showing a zoomed-in crop of the announcement’s art with two cult members on the ground and embracing. The follow-up tweet was captioned "This could be us", which only made the fan theories explode even further.
Genuine Concerns of Explicit Content Emerge
Amidst the constant flow of memes born from the update’s questionable title and odd choice of cover art were genuine concerns from the community. Some feared that the game would legitimately be delving into explicit content that bordered on pornographic. Considering the base game’s content and the contention for its TEEN ESRB rating, the concerns have some weight to them.
Fortunately, these concerns were more or less laid to rest on the game’s Steam page, where a community manager for Massive Monster clarified a few things in the comments following the announcement.
"Don't worry, the 'sex update' is more of a meme in the community. One some people are really running with", said community manager Massive_CM after a fan raised a concern about the game’s upcoming content. "The age rating hopefully won't change after this update, as we made sure [the] content adheres to guidelines."
