Borderlands 4 will have more challenging points, which makes Gearbox CEO “a little nervous.” Read on to learn more about the game’s difficulty and how much value the game holds.
Borderlands 4 Difficulty and Value
Some Points are More Challenging
Borderlands 4 is ramping up towards its release date, and apparently, so is its difficulty at certain points of the game. In an interview with Insider Gaming during Gamescom 2025, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford shared his insights on Borderlands 4’s difficulty and how it affects the experience of long-time fans
Pitchford admitted that he is "a little nervous" as some points of the game are much more challenging. He said that most of the players in the series are not interested in deep and hard challenges, with the majority of them "love just exploring the Borderlands or spending time with the characters."
Despite the difficulty, Pitchford assured fans that they can grind away and overcome these challenges. He stated, "You will find that things that were hard when you were a little chump will become trivial when you become a badass."
Pitchford Thinks Borderlands 4 Can Be Valued at $200

While Pitchford has previously dabbled with fans regarding the pricing of the game, he continues to discuss Borderlands 4’s value and stated that it can be charged at $200 for its value and content. He said, "Shit, I think they could charge $200. I wish they'd give it away, because then everyone would play it."
Pitchford infamously caught under fire regarding his comments about "real fans" not having a problem with the game’s price, which angered the community. However, he said that all these talks and conversations about the game do not matter and will not change the result.

The CEO noted, "At the end of the day, when I want something, and I feel like what they're asking is fair, I'll get it. If I don't want something, I won't. Or if I think what they're asking of me isn't fair, I'm not going to do it. All the talk doesn't matter, at the end of the day, that's what it is."
He emphasized the hours many people spent playing previous Borderlands titles, and that’s what holds the most value. Pitchford stated, "If you think about that in terms of the most amount that could have ever been spent versus the time of entertainment, you can't find a better value in the world for any kind of entertainment."

Although many are still irked about his previous comments, Pitchford’s sentiment that the game has so much value holds with its expanded build diversity and being the biggest Borderlands title to date.
Borderlands 4 is set to be released on September 12, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
