Company's Keyring Site Crashes as Other Employees Redeem Codes

Adam Holisky, a former product lead at Blizzard, revealed on Twitter (X) that he used his "Free game time" employee benefit to activate one-year WoW subscription codes, accumulating almost 10 years of game time.

"Once I realized what was happening and that I was gonna be laid off, I made sure to jump into keyring and use all the 1-year subscription codes I have left.

😂," read Holisky's tweet posted on January 25, the same day as reports of Microsoft's massive layoff surfaced. 1900 employees across Xbox, Zenimax, and Blizzard, were reported to be laid off.

Keyring, as explained by Holisky to news site Kotaku, is an internal system at Blizzard where employees can access digital game codes that they have earned. In this case, Holisky racked up multiple one-year subscription codes over his tenure at Blizzard, and it will last him until October 2033 as indicated in the screenshot in his tweet. Holisky worked at Blizzard for over four years and served as its Core Technology Product Lead.

According to his coworker's reply, Keyring crashed as other employees also attempted to redeem their game codes before the layoffs took effect. Blizzard has a 12-Month Offer for WoW subscriptions at $12.99 per month. This big brain move saved Holisky over $1,403 for the subs.
