Summer Game Fest 2025 will see the return of Nintendo after 2 years of absence from the event. Read on to learn more about what Nintendo could showcase at SGF and titles fans expect from the Xbox Games Showcase.
Summer Game Fest 2025 Partners Updates
Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2025 is just over a week away, and fans are excited about this year’s lineup. In a Twitter (X) post on May 28, SGF announced that they will have a record-breaking 60+ partners for the event, which includes the return of Japanese game giant Nintendo.
For the past 2 SGF events, Nintendo did not participate, opting to focus on their Nintendo Directs. Notably, this year, Nintendo has confirmed to make a comeback, especially since they are about to release their highly anticipated next-gen handheld console, Switch 2.
However, despite being announced for SGF, this does not guarantee that the company will have a full-blown stage presentation. Instead, fans can expect additional information about the Switch 2, and possibly more trailers for the games that are set to be released on it.
Xbox Games Showcase Could Feature Everwild and State of Decay 3

Another tech giant will also present itself at the event, as they have been doing so annually for several years. In partnership with SGF, Xbox will hold its annual Xbox Games Showcase during the weekend-long celebration. Aside from the expected new Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day and Reloaded, and Outer Wilds 2, which will have their own Direct, fans are expecting 2 other titles to make an appearance.
One of these is State of Decay 3, which was first revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020. Over four years later, during Xbox Games Showcase 2024, they showed another cinematic trailer, this time, including rendered in-game assets, which could indicate that they are making significant steps in development.
In fact, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer himself seems to be one of the series’ hopeful fans. Spencer spoke with Xbox Era in February 2025 about games that they are looking forward to, and he stated, "Yeah, State of Decay is just one of the franchises I love back from the original one, so that one stays on the board. I do think the work that Double Fine’s doing and how Tim kind of solicits feedback from the team."

Moreover, he also mentioned Rare’s brand-new IP, Everwild, which was first announced in 2019. It was described as "A unique and unforgettable experience await in a natural and magical world." In the same interview, Spencer gave an update on its progress. He stated, "And the other one, I’ll say because I was recently out at Rare. It’s nice to see the team with Everwild and the progress that they’re making."
The recency of these comments and the general buzz surrounding both of these games suggest that they may be included in this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. However, these are just speculations, and Xbox has yet to make any official announcements regarding what the event will highlight.

Fans can tune in to the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 on June 8 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET. It will be livestreamed on Xbox’s official YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook channels. After the showcase, it will be immediately followed by The Outer Worlds 2 Direct.
