    Does Netflix Make Games?

Netflix is known for their TV and Movie subscription service and now they are trying their hand at publishing Mobile Games. Learn more about Netflix's Gaming History, Top Game Titles, and Game8's take on Netflix's game journey!

    Does Netflix Make Games?

Netflix Games Launched in November 2021

    Image

Netflix launched Netflix Games in November 2021 through the Netflix app and started with 5 mobile games in their library: Stranger Things: 1984 (Bonus XP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (Bonus XP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop). Today, Netflix Games has over 40 mobile games.

Netflix Games is very similar to Apple Arcade, where you get a collection of games as part of the membership. All the games in the Netflix game library are included in your membership and do not require you to make extra purchases. You can enjoy the games ad-free as well.

Kentucky Route Zero has an immersive storyline for a point-and-click adventure game. It was available on Nintendo Switch before it was added to the list of mobile games on Netflix. This game is about a secret highway running through the caves beneath Kentucky and the mysterious people who travel it.

Twelve Minutes - Added December 2022

Twelve Minutes is a point and click interactive thriller adventure game where you try to escape a time-loop nightmare. You have to find a way to use the knowledge you gained from the previous loops to escape the terrors you'll encounter.

Should Netflix Focus on Mobile Games

Netflix Users can Potentially Make It Work

Since Netflix is still in its game acquisition infancy stage, it is hard to say with certainty that this is a good or a bad business move. However, there is huge potential for user engagement on Netflix since they have millions of subscribers worldwide already.

That being said, it's doubtful that anyone is buying a subscription just to play these mobile game titles. It's likely meant more as a supplement to the streaming service and an extra reason to stay subscribed to the platform.

Netflix has been trying to acquire game studios and games with a pretty respectable track record so far. Although this might be a good opportunity for Netflix to diversify what their platform is capable of, it's not what their brand is known for. Only time will tell whether they will succeed in this new field.
