Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition Overview
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is the expanded edition of the original 2002 Stronghold Crusader game, adding a plethora of new content such as 8 new playable units, 4 new AI lords, and new campaigns. Engage in historical skirmishes, travelling back in the era of the legendary crusades. In the Definitive Edition, the experience is enhanced with new gameplay and upgraded visuals.
Embark on a journey with either Richard the Lionheart, King of England, or Sultan Saladin, head of the Ayyubid Dynasty and ruler of the Islamic domain. Lead a resolute band of Crusaders, fire-forged by warfare throughout the years, or fight for the freedom of the dynasty as Saladin’s army. Campaigns span different periods of the Crusades, from the First to the Third Crusades, and various conflicts.
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition Gameplay

As a real-time-strategy (RTS) city builder, players assume the role of either Richard the Lionheart, or Sultan Saladin, to establish a robust military and claim over the distant Arabian lands. Situated in the desert sands of the Middle East, players will take on the forces of nature along with enemy lines, making sure that their desert fortresses are well-equipped.
Outside of campaigns, players can also dive into the all-improved skirmish mode with larger maps, options for customization, and quality of life (QoL) improvements.
