Space Engineers 2 Overview

Space Engineers 2 is the next installment of Keen Software House's 2013 title Space Engineers. It is a sandbox game with an underlying story set in the vast reaches of space in the Almagest system. Players will have access to an ever-expanding selection of powerful tools to craft with in order to express their creativity and uncover the secrets of the star system they’re in.

The game is set to release on Steam Early Access starting January 27, 2025. According to the developers, they plan on keeping the game on Early Access for around three years in order to work on the game alongside its community. This will include the addition of multiplayer modes, new planets, and a story campaign.

Space Engineers 2 Gameplay

Space Engineers 2 carries on its predecessor’s legacy as an open-world sandbox game, inviting players to explore the vast Almagest System. To navigate this expansive universe, players can design and build vessels tailored to their needs, whether for exploration, combat, or other purposes, using a growing array of tools and components. From ships and bases to elaborate structures, the possibilities are limited only by imagination.

Currently, the game features a Creative Mode packed with tools like a 25 cm unified grid system, grid undo/redo, blueprint building, a paint tool, and advanced options such as symmetry and voxel hand tools, enabling players to craft their creations with precision. Future updates aim to introduce Survival Mode and a story-driven experience, broadening gameplay opportunities.
