FANTASIAN Neo Dimension is the 2024 enhanced release of FANTASIAN, originally developed by Mistwalker and led by Hironobu Sakaguchi. The game builds upon its mobile origins with quality-of-life improvements like an easier difficulty level, dual-language voice acting, and additional gameplay features like a customizable battle soundtrack featuring tracks from the latest Final Fantasy games.
The game is set in a multi-dimensional universe where players take on the role of Leo, an amnesiac protagonist who must now recover his lost memories and confront a mechanical infection ravaging his world. All the environments in the game utilize over 150 hand-built dioramas that all serve as backdrops for exploration and combat.
FANTASIAN Neo Dimension retains its classic turn-based battle system but introduces innovative mechanics, such as the Dimengeon system, which allows players to consolidate random encounters into single high-stakes battles. Additionally, players can manipulate the trajectory of attacks to hit multiple enemies at once.

In FANTASIAN Neo Dimension, players engage in a turn-based combat system that builds on classic JRPG mechanics while introducing modern features. Battles accommodate up to three party members at a time, facing either random encounters or boss fights. Players can manipulate the trajectory of attacks by utilizing straight or curved lines to strike multiple foes simultaneously.
The game incorporates the Dimegeon System, which allows players to defer random encounters by sending enemies into a pocket dimension. These enemies can later be fought in a consolidated battle, which may include bonuses like extra turns or enhanced damage. The Dimengeon has a limit, triggering mandatory combat once full.
As characters progress, they gain experience and skill points, which are used to unlock abilities via a grid system. Weapon and equipment upgrades are also integrated, alongside a "Tension" gauge mechanic that builds during battles and enables powerful special moves. Players can further adapt their strategy by swapping characters mid-battle.

A Welcome Port of an iOS Game
FANTASIAN Neo Dimension has received generally positive reviews. On Metacritic, it holds an average score of 81 on Nintendo Switch, 83 on PS5, and 85 on PC. Game8 awarded the game a 90 out of 100, praising its nostalgic JRPG feel despite its mobile origins. RPG Site was even more enthusiastic, giving it a perfect 10 out of 10, highlighting the improvements over the 2021 Apple Arcade version, such as voice acting, which addressed many of its original issues.
However, not all reviews were as glowing. Nintendo Life, while still enjoying the game, gave it a 7 out of 10, criticizing its uneven pacing and repetitive combat encounters. They did, however, praise the game’s diorama backgrounds and challenging combat system.
