Dead Take Overview
Dead Take is a standalone psychological horror puzzle game that delves into the dangers of the film industry, and the mark it can leave on passionate actors. Dead Take follows Chase Lowry, an aspiring actor chasing his dream with a fervor that borders on obsession. In a bid to find your friend, Vinny, you bring yourself to the home of Duke Cain, Executive Producer at Lamplight Studios and the man you look up to. What starts out as a simple mission to find your friend turns into a winding maze of secrets that reveal more about the person you look up to, the industry you’ve thrown yourself into, and the person you’ve become.
The core gameplay is dedicated to exploring the space around you and interacting with items in your vicinity. Interspersed with FMVs of well-known voice actors such as Neil Newbon, Ben Starr, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, and more, the game stands out among other puzzle horror games because of its star-studded cast and their stellar performances.
Dead Take Gameplay

Dead Take is played from the perspective of Chase Lowry as he navigates Duke Cain’s sprawling mansion. The gameplay is typical of many first-person horror games in which players must interact with items to collect clues and discover secrets. The game also introduces a neat gimmick in which players can splice together videos of the actors to obtain even more clues.
Dead Take Reviews
A Grounded, Compelling Story With Show-Stopping Performances

Metacritic gave Dead Take a generally favorable score of 77, praising the game for its accurate and compelling portrayal of the trauma that comes with being a Hollywood actor. Though puzzles were generally interesting and rewarding, they tended to be unbalanced, with some puzzles being far too easy while others would bring players’ journeys to a halt. FMV performances of the cast stole the show and offered a deeply personal tone that grounded the themes of the game’s storyline.
Players on Steam gave Dead Take "Very Positive" reviews for the cast’s exceptional performances and the game’s engaging story. Though the jumpscares were deemed cheap and underwhelming, Dead Take is seen as a great game for people who love narrative-driven games and for people who are new to horror.
