The Weeping Swan: Ten Days of the City’s Fall follows traditional visual novel mechanics where players experience the game’s narrative through text and key art. The game will take players across the dangerous Lion Camel Kingdom which has been besieged by an occupying force.
It is unknown whether there will be additional gameplay mechanics, but it has been confirmed that players will be presented with crucial decision points where the story will branch into different routes and endings.
The Weeping Swan: Ten Days of the City's Fall Story Plot
The Weeping Swan: Ten Days of the City’s Fall takes place in the same universe and timeline as its predecessor, The Hungry Lamb: Traveling in the Late Ming Dynasty. However, it serves as a standalone story set in 1645 before the end of the Ming Dynasty—years after the events of The Hungry Lamb. The Weeping Swan tells the story of Fang Zhiyou, a scholar who suffers from the untimely loss of his childhood friend, Su Lianyan. His grief spirals into an illness known as "Beast’s Affliction", which distorts his sense of reality and fills it with one where demons run rampant.
When Fang Zhiyou awakens from a night of drinking alcohol, he finds himself in the Lion Camel Kingdom, a fictional place from Zhiyou’s own writings. The Lion Camel Kingdom is the site of a reimagining of the ten-day Yangzhou Massacre of 1645, where real life historical events clash with Chinese mythology. In this reality, Fang Zhiyou meets a young girl named Little Yan, who bears a striking resemblance to Su Lianyan. Their meeting sets off a string of events that explore themes of madness, destiny, love, and survival.
