Monster Hunter: World Gameplay

Monster Hunter: World’s gameplay loop involves hunting increasingly powerful monsters to acquire better materials for equipment upgrades. Players customize their character and rely on equipment to define their abilities, crafting gear using loot from defeated monsters and choosing from the 14 weapon types:

 ⚫︎ Great Sword
 ⚫︎ Long Sword
 ⚫︎ Sword and Shield
 ⚫︎ Dual Blades
 ⚫︎ Hammer
 ⚫︎ Hunting Horn
 ⚫︎ Lance
 ⚫︎ Gunlance
 ⚫︎ Switch Axe
 ⚫︎ Charge Blade
 ⚫︎ Insect Glaive
 ⚫︎ Light Bowgun
 ⚫︎ Heavy Bowgun
 ⚫︎ Bow

Players undertake quests or expeditions to explore seamless regions filled with monsters and resources. Tracking monsters is now made easy through the Scout flies, which come in handy in quests, as Monsters exhibit dynamic behaviors, such as fleeing or becoming more aggressive when weakened. Players must manage health, stamina, and various debuffs to clear the hunt. Successful hunts yield rewards, though fainting multiple times can result in quest failure.

The base game's story continues with High-Rank quests, Bounties, Optional quests, and Investigations, each offering harder challenges and better rewards. World also featured Event quests, introducing limited-time challenges and collaborations. Players can opt to do many of these quests solo or cooperatively with up to three other hunters by joining or creating online lobbies.

Iceborne expands on the base game by introducing the Hoarfrost Reach, an arctic environment with new and returning monsters and mechanics. A new Master Rank introduces tougher enemies and superior rewards. Seliana serves as the hub this time around, with new systems like Raider Rides to quickly travel from area to area in a map. This expansion also included the Clutch Claw for grappling onto monsters, expanded weapon abilities, and layered armor for customization.

Monster Hunter: World Story

In Monster Hunter: World, players step into the role of a Hunter, part of the Fifth Fleet dispatched by the Research Commission to the New World, a land teeming with unexplored ecosystems and untamed creatures. The Fleet’s primary mission is to investigate the Elder Crossing, a phenomenon where massive Elder Dragons migrate to the New World every decade. Upon their arrival, however, the fleet encounters Zorah Magdaros, a towering Elder Dragon whose migration triggers an urgent crisis, as having it release its energy upon dying in the New World could mean that the entire continent would blow up.

The Iceborne expansion introduces a new threat as a mysterious song lures the Legiana, a wyvern species, to an unexplored polar region. The Research Commission establishes a new base, Seliana, in the Hoarfrost Reach to investigate this discovery. As hunters delve deeper, they uncover a connection between seismic activity, the migration of powerful monsters, and an ancient legend about the Old Everwyrm. This threat causes more powerful monsters to appear, like the Velkhana, the ice Elder Dragon, that threatens to freeze the environments in the New World.
