Monster Hunter Outlanders Overview

Monster Hunter Outlanders is a survival game from Capcom and Tencent’s TiMi Studio, known for games like Pokemon Unite. Developed for the iOS and Android devices, Outlanders introduces an expansive environment similar to mainline Monster Hunter titles, where players take on massive creatures in large regions. The game is said to include and improve on familiar mechanics like crafting and hunting, while optimizing these elements for mobile devices.

Players will play as the Fated Adventurer, the game’s customizable main character. However, in addition, the game also allows players to choose from and play as preset Adventurers before hunts, with each having specialized weapons and skills. The game will reportedly include in-app purchases, but how it will be monetized is currently unknown.

Although the exact release date for Monster Hunter Outlanders hasn’t been announced, Capcom and TiMi are planning a series of playtests to fine-tune the mobile experience based on player feedback, with the first closed beta test starting this November.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Gameplay

Similar to mainline Monster Hunter games, Outlanders will see players progress through the story by completing quests: hunting monsters and gathering resources within a large map. Each activity yields rewards, such as materials for crafting and in-game currency. Materials collected in the game are essential for crafting weapons, armors, and various tools for future hunts.

The game’s main region, known as Aesoland, consists of a large map with diverse terrains, where players can battle large monsters. Among these, players may encounter Radiant Species, which are monsters with altered appearances and more aggressive and powerful abilities.

If Outlanders follows previous series conventions, exploration outside of quests will likely be free of time restrictions to allow players to freely gather resources or hunt monsters. Based on available footage, players can navigate the map and access hard-to-reach areas using paragliders, grappling ropes, wind turbines, and other mechanisms within their disposal.

These new traversal mechanics tie into the game’s building system, where players can construct structures like ballistas and cannons that not only aid in movement but can also be used in combat against large foes.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Characters

Given Monster Hunter Outlanders’ free-to-play model, speculation around its monetization system is understandable. With its focus on collectible weapons, characters, and even a new in-game resource called Radiantite, many expect it to adopt a gacha-style approach. However, TiMi Studio has clarified that no final decision has been made regarding the exact monetization model. Cosmetics are currently being explored as the main avenue for purchases, while post-launch content and update plans remain under discussion. The developers also stated that feedback from the upcoming closed beta—slated to begin recruitment in November—will help shape how the game handles monetization moving forward.

As for combat, the developers confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will feature a limited set of returning weapon types at launch, adapted specifically for smartphone controls. The current confirmed lineup includes:

 ⚫︎ Great Sword
 ⚫︎ Long Sword
 ⚫︎ Dual Blades
 ⚫︎ Bow
 ⚫︎ Heavy Bowgun

This group matches the weapons featured in the Tokyo Game Show demo, though promotional materials also confirmed that the Light Bowgun and Lance will appear in the game. The developers explained that the focus is on refining existing weapon types to feel intuitive on touchscreens, rather than creating entirely new ones. While they did not commit to a specific number of weapons at launch, they reiterated plans to expand the arsenal over time.
