Upcoming Updates for Marvel Rivals
New Team-Up Skills and Changes
Marvel Rivals Game Director Guangyun Chen confirmed that team-up skills will be changed for season 2. In an interview with PC Gamer on March 14, Chen discussed what the team has in store for the game's next major update.
He explained, "Starting from Season 2, we will introduce new Team-Up skills with the seasonal update and adjust some existing ones. Together with seasonal overall balance adjustments, this will create a new combat environment and experience for the season."
Currently, Marvel Rivals has 17 team-up skills with Ragnarok Rebirth for Hela and either Loki or Thor, Lunar Force for Cloak & Dagger and Moon Knight, and Allied Agents for Hawkeye and Black Widow, to name a few. It would be interesting how NetEase would go about these changes considering the growing roster of the game, which would make it more difficult for the developers to balance out these heroes.
Balancing Heroes
Chen elaborated on how the team takes on the challenge of balancing heroes for Marvel Rivals as the game continuously adds more characters to the mix. He stated, "First, we will closely monitor key metrics for heroes across different modes. For example, in Quick Match and Competitive Modes, we will analyze data such as win rates, pick rates, damage, healing, damage taken, and final blows for heroes at various ranks and in different tournaments. This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts."
He continued, "At the same time, we will analyze the composition of hero lineups and their win rates within the aforementioned modes, which will be crucial references for our overall balancing direction. Finally, we will pay close attention to the player community as one of the bases for our balancing decisions."
Chen previously mentioned in an interview with news site Metro in January that the game would introduce a new hero each half of a season. Each season lasts for around 3 months, which means in a year, Marvel Rivals would add a total of 8 heroes to their roster. As the game continues to grow, so too shall its roster size, and the developers would have the daunting task of balancing the game ahead of them.
He also confirmed that the team has been working on future updates of the game and said, "The content for Season 2 is ready and set to go. The designs for Seasons 3 and 4 have also been completed and are currently under intensive development! Overall, everything is progressing smoothly." This statement comes as no surprise as NetEase previously said that Marvel Rivals will be supported for 10 years and beyond, so fans can expect the company’s commitment in delivering amazing updates for the game for the foreseeable future.
Spider-Punk 2099 and Steam Power Ironman Coming on March 20
NetEase announced on Marvel Rival’s official Twitter (X) account on March 18 that there would be new skins for Spiderman and Iron Man coming on March 20 at 7 PM PDT / 10 PM EDT / March 21 at 2:00 AM UTC. Spiderman would have a futuristic look sporting a digital mask with a spiked mohawk while also wielding an electric guitar, and will be called "Spider-Punk 2099". On the other hand, Iron Man’s Steam Power skin dons a steampunk aesthetic, having large exhaust pipes and a burning furnace on his torso.
Fans have been clamoring for these as both skins were previously featured in the game’s closed beta period. This comes after Loki’s Presidential attire, which was also available during Marvel Rivals’ beta testing, is now officially released in the game. Despite NetEase announcing the release date for both skins, they have not revealed their prices.
NetEase looks to finish up on the game’s season 1 and is gearing up for more updates and changes for season 2. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about Marvel Rivals, click on our article below!
