⚫︎ Marvel Rivals' total player count shoots up to 36 with the incoming arrival of the new 18v18 game mode, showcased in a new gameplay trailer which also features a new map called the Grand Garden.
⚫︎ The Marvel Rivals anniversary event is here, showering players with a windfall of rewards. The event begins on November 27. Players can also look forward to receiving more rewards beginning December 4.
⚫︎ Marvel Rivals introduces Gambit, the newest Strategist to enter the arena. His character reveal trailer reveals that he would be having two stances in combat, either taking on the offensive or providing support and healing in the backlines.
⚫︎ Marvel Rivals announced its upcoming PvE mode based on Marvel Zombies, set to be released later this month. Heroes included in the event will have additional special powers in this mode to take on hordes of zombies.

Marvel Rivals Overview
Marvel Rivals is the newest free-to-play competitive 6v6 hero shooter where two teams compete against each other in various game modes that center around defending and taking objectives. The game is being developed and published by NetEase Games, who are well-known in their foray of live-service games.
The gameplay is similar to games like Overwatch 2, Paladins, and Team Fortress 2, where two teams will fight in different maps with different objectives in a variety of game modes. Marvel Rivals will be released on several platforms namely: PC (Steam, Epic Games), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. During the game’s closed beta, crossplay was supported between consoles, but PC players were limited to match only with PC players.

Marvel Rivals Gameplay
Players will be able to choose a wide variety of over 25 Marvel superheroes and supervillains to fit the composition of their team. What differentiates Marvel Rivals from other competitive team shooters is that it has a fully-interactable and destructible environment featuring well-known locations from the Marvel mythos. Another key difference that the game has are "Team-Up Skills", which are synergistic skills between two heroes that incorporates the lore between several Marvel characters.
Currently, there are 3 playable game modes: Convoy, Convergence, and Domination and a total of 4 different maps as shown in the game’s Closed Beta. It’s also been revealed that all of the game’s playable characters will be unlocked and free to play on release and until the game ends its services.
Marvel Rivals Characters and Roles
The roster consists of widely popular characters in the Marvel Multiverse like Captain America, Doctor Strange, Thor, and more. Additionally, they also feature characters who have yet been shown in any form of media like Luna Snow, Magik, and Jeff the Land Shark.
They are also classified with their own roles namely: Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist, which are the game’s way of balancing characters around their identities and powers into a team-centric game.

Marvel Rivals Reviews
Heroically Jank, But Has Potential
Marvel Rivals was received relatively well among players lucky enough to join the game’s different Closed Tests. Users from Reddit agreed that it reminded them of the early days of Overwatch where character balance and gameplay was still rough around the edges. But, the game’s overall visuals, animations, and presentation are its biggest assets, as the game is presented amazingly sleek and detailed. Many have applauded the game’s redesigns of iconic heroes like Iron-Man, Spider-Man, and the like.
One issue pointed out by prominent Overwatch content creator, Flats_OW, that the game has is the slow movement, as players have pointed out that the base movement speed of each character seems way too slow for a hero shooter. PCGamer has also pointed out that the gutted identities of certain characters also shoehorn iconic characters into roles that don’t necessarily fit them like Magneto being forced to be a shielding tank as opposed to his identity as the Master of Magnetism.
During the game’s Closed Beta, players have also noted that they quickly lost interest in the game after a while, since there were only 3 playable maps. NetEase have already assured that there will be more maps on the game’s release, which will hopefully satiate the playerbase when the game fully releases.
Overall, Marvel Rivals has potential and is heading in the direction to compete directly with the likes of Overwatch 2. Based on the general reception of players who were able to play in the Closed Tests, it has the makings of something great, and is already polished in terms of presentation, but it still needs time to work on certain gameplay mechanics and character balancing.
