DarkSwitch Gameplay
DarkSwitch takes place on a massive 200-meter-tall tree that serves as the foundation for the settlement. Instead of spreading outward like in most city builders, the city grows upward along the trunk and branches. Because horizontal space is limited, new layers are connected using stairways and zip lines as resources are managed across the settlement.
The city’s survival depends on managing 11 different resource types, turning raw materials into processed goods used for construction, research, and defense. As the settlement develops, progressing through four technology levels unlocks new buildings, upgrades, and tools.
The fog surrounding the tree acts as a constant threat. It can drive citizens into madness and conceal dangerous creatures approaching the city. Lighting pathways, crafting light-powered weapons, and harnessing the energy of Solium help push the darkness back.
Exploration also contributes to progress. Scout detachments venture into the fog to chart new airship routes, establish distant outposts, and excavate rare resources and artifacts from the ruins of earlier civilizations.
DarkSwitch Story Plot
DarkSwitch is set in a dark fantasy world where a settlement has been built within the branches of a gigantic tree. Below it, a dangerous fog spreads across the land, driving people into madness and concealing deadly creatures within its depths.
As players expand their city, they explore the fog-covered world to uncover the ruins of earlier civilizations and learn what happened to those who came before. The story unfolds through exploration and morally complex decisions that can lead to unexpected and sometimes grim consequences for their citizens.
