Everything We Know About Capes
Capes Story Plot
Capes is your standard superhero story with a dark twist. Superheroes—colloquially called "Capes" in this universe–-lost to the villains twenty years ago and have been forced into hiding ever since. King City, once protected by its saviors, has now fallen to the ruinous grip of The Company. Any prospective hero is abducted immediately to prevent their inevitable stand against evil. Those who manage to evade capture are hunted relentlessly by The Company’s goons.
A dissident group of Capes is on the rise and the reclamation of King City is at hand. Do you have what it takes to lead your own team to greatness?
Capes Gameplay
Capes’ gameplay is very similar to other turn-based strategy games like XCOM: Enemy Uknown, XCOM 2, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and The Lamplighters League. The game features an isometric camera angle, a point-based resource system for each cape’s abilities, and a grid-based movement system similar to the one used by Firaxis games for their XCOM games.
The player takes control of a team of superheroes, each with their own unique skill set, combat role, and utility. Careful management of each Cape’s Movement and Action Points is key to optimizing their effectiveness, as is the timely addition of unit upgrades and equipment to ensure their survival.
The game features a campaign mode going over the main story of King City, featuring various mission types, mid-game cutscenes, and a fair bit of fully voice-acted dialogue stylistically presented through classic comic strip aesthetics.
