Some fans speculate that it may take place before Estevez meets Saga Anderson and before the FBC captures Alan. Supporting this theory, Estevez mentions in the game, "It's a Bureau research facility at Cauldron Lake, set up to study the effects of this AWE." She also recounts losing agents and barely escaping the station when it fell to the Shadow.
