Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Story Plot
The game will pick up where Final Fantasy VII Remake left off, with Cloud Strife and his allies on the run from Shinra after escaping from Midgar. The party will travel across the planet, exploring new locations and meeting new characters on their way to stop Sephiroth from destroying the planet.
Things seem to be progressing identically to the original FF7's plot, but then it's revealed that Zack Fair, the former first-class SOLDIER, is alive. He can be seen talking to Biggs, who points at a wanted poster where all AVALANCHE members, from Barret, Wedge, Jesse, and Tifa are implied to be dead.
What do any of these scenes mean for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? We can only wait until we get our hands on the game to determine the fate of our beloved characters, and the planet.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Gameplay
Final Fantasy 7 Remake converted the series' distinctive turn-based combat into a real-time action RPG similar to its predecessor, Final Fantasy XV. This evolved battle system combines strategic thinking with thrilling action combat alongside party members, including the newly added characters.
According to Director Naoki Hamaguchi, the battle system in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will get new synergy moves and skill trees. Players can combine powerful attacks with the synergy actions, and the skill trees offer a fresh approach to develop and customize characters. These adjustments should make the fighting more complex and customizable, while also enhancing player connection to the characters.
Synergy Moves
Synergy moves are team-up attacks that certain party members can execute together! The official FF7R Twitter(X) account uploaded a few clips of coordinated attacks for our viewing pleasure. In the post above, Yuffie and Barret combine their long-range powers to attack from a distance, finishing with Barret launching Yuffie for a head-on attack.
In the clip above, Tifa and Cait Sith work together by letting Tifa swing Cait Sith's doll body around, wrecking havoc upon surrounding enemies.
Open World, Map, and Fast Travel
FF7 Rebirth will take place when the party leave first leave Midgar, suddenly being thrust into the open-world experience, allowing them to freely walk from one area to another. Players can tour the stunning, vast sections of the planet and discover new places as the party seeks for Sephiroth. The clip above shows briefly shows the world map, revealing the massive scale of the exploration that will be available. It also shows off the game's fast travel feature.
Red XIII's Revenge Gauge
Red XIII, who was previously an NPC companion, is now a fully playable party member with a unique playstyle that revolves around his "Revenge Gauge." The Revenge Gauge charges when he guards against enemy attacks and once the gauge is filled, he can spend that charge to use various abilities.

Destined for Rebirth
The Destined for Rebirth shows more footage of the infamous Nibelheim scene where Sephiroth goes on his rampage. Several team-up attacks are showcased as all party members fight for their survival against the forces of Shinra and Sephiroth. Most notably, Tifa falls in grave danger, and Cloud lets out his most emotional state yet as he screams her name.
Theme Song Announcement Trailer
This trailer fully shows off the anticipated character reveals of Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine, future characters that will no doubt be joining the fight against Sephiroth and Shinra. It also features the game's theme song, sung by Aerith while performing in a play.
State of Play Trailer - September 15, 2023
In this trailer, we see Zack carrying Cloud in the midst of a ruined city. This trailer also showed that Cloud and his companions are looking for Sephiroth while they explore the planet. Other characters shown include Yuffie and Vincent Valentine.
Summer Game Fest 2023 Trailer - June 9, 2023
This trailer showed the devastating destruction caused by a massive tornado that swept through Sectors 0, 1 and 2. It was then followed by a scene with Cloud and his companions exploring the planet and Aerith admiring the view of a greener environment. The trailer also showed some gameplay fighting against a stone golem boss, the Turks, and other enemies. At the end, Sephiroth asks, "You know I killed her, so who is she?" while slashing Tifa.
First Look Trailer - Jun 17, 2022
The trailer had Cloud and Tifa conversing about what happened in Nibelheim 5 years ago. Cloud was narrating that he saw Tifa and thought it was too late. Tifa then retorted that Cloud implies that she died and the current Tifa is an impostor. What is truth and what is fiction?
