Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Museum in Uji City, Kyoto will open around this fall season. The museum is intended to showcase the deep history of the company and the evolution of Nintendo products.

As confirmed by Nintendo in its latest financial report, the Nintendo Museum in Uji City, Kyoto is scheduled to open this fall. The Nintendo Museum is developed at the site of the former Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant in Uji City in Kyoto. This location previously served as Nintendo's manufacturing site for trading cards and a repair facility for toys and consoles. Aptly situated in one of Japan's highly historic regions and Nintendo's own HQ, the museum's grand opening could take place any time between September to December 2024.

The museum, initially announced 3 years ago as the Nintendo Gallery, started construction in 2023 and has now been completed. The team has been preparing for the grand opening. "The museum building is already complete, and we are currently getting ready for opening. Since we anticipate these preparations will take some time, we have set the opening for Fall 2024," Nintendo said. With preparations underway, an exact opening date and ticketing information have yet to be announced.

In related news, the Donkey Kong Country area, an expansion of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Universal Studios Japan, is nearing completion. However, to ensure a top-tier experience for visitors, Nintendo decided to extend its final preparation period, pushing the grand opening to the second half of 2024.

Nintendo Museum in Uji City, Kyoto will display a comprehensive array of Nintendo products spanning the company's illustrious history. Visitors can explore the evolution of Nintendo's product development and gain insight into its company philosophy, and expect to marvel at nearly two centuries' worth of entertainment history.

Founded in 1889, Nintendo started with the manufacturing and selling of hand-crafted playing cards called, "hanafuda" in Japan. By the 1950s, Nintendo Playing Card Co. Ltd. became the first ever in Japan to mass-produce plastic playing cards. In addition to playing cards, Nintendo started to produce games by 1960s.

Since the 1970s, the company has shifted mainly to the video game business, introducing the most iconic video game franchises in history such as Mario, Pokémon, and Zelda, among others, as well as numerous legendary gaming consoles like the NES, Game Boy, N64, GameCube, DS, and highest-selling forerunner, the Nintendo Switch.
