Everything We Know About Rabbit and Steel

Rabbit and Steel Story Plot

Image

According to legend, a rabbit once gazed up at the moon with tearful eyes and asked, "Dearest moon, how could one like I have as many bright, shining friends as you?" The moon, after hearing her desperate cries, blessed the rabbit with an answer and offered to be her friend. Within the span of one night, the rabbit had poured her heart out to the moon until morning when it had to go away.

Inspired by the moon’s kindness, the rabbit spent decades of her life creating a kingdom where the lonely could find solace.

Rabbit and Steel Gameplay

Image

Rabbit and Steel is a cooperative side-scroller bullet hell with roguelike progression, RPG elements, and a single-player story mode. Unlike other bullet hell games, every stage is a direct encounter with the boss, entirely skipping the usual gauntlet of fighting against normal mobs on the way there.

The bosses themselves are specially designed for fighting against single or multiple players. Their bullet patterns change as you play with more people and as you adjust the difficulty. But not everything in the game is cooperative; an element of competition between players is also added with regards to the loot pool, which is shared among all players in the lobby.

Rabbit and Steel Additional Information

Game8 had the chance to talk with the developer and ask him about the game’s current state, and that of the near future. Here are some of the important bits:

Question 1: Will Rabbit and Steel have console ports?

Answer: "There currently aren't any console plans. The game runs on Steam's peer-to-peer lobby API, so porting the game with online play intact would be difficult, and crossplay would be impossible. So, it'd be really hard, and even when it was done it would just split the playerbase."

Question 2: What will we see from Rabbit and Steel in the near future?

Answer: "As for future content, immediate plans are to add a lot of highly-requested features that barely didn't make the cut for release; like a sandbox mode to play around with the items and classes."

Question 3: How about more characters and other additions?

Answer: "I think it's extremely likely that I'll add more classes and bosses, but I'm thinking that instead of small, incremental updates, I'll release it all at once down the line as a larger update to the game.

I'd also like to take a crack at some mod support, though I can't say for sure what I'll be able to accomplish there yet.

The game's been a huge success beyond my wildest expectations, so I'm definitely going to keep working on it for a bit!"
