Breath of the Wild was initially planned for release in 2015, but the developers chose to expand the game, resulting in a delay. The final release date was confirmed as March 3, 2017, during the Nintendo Switch presentation in January 2017.
E3 2014 and the Game Awards 2014
The first gameplay footage of Breath of the Wild was revealed on June 11, 2014. Later, another gameplay demonstration was showcased during The Game Awards, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma presenting and playing a section of the game.
Wii U Presentation 2013
Breath of the Wild was officially announced during a Nintendo Direct for the Wii U on January 23, 2013, where series director Eiji Aonuma assured fans that the game would offer a unique experience, setting it apart from previous Zelda titles.
