Kojima announced that filming and motion capture for Death Stranding 2 wrapped up in May 2024. He also mentioned that the game is currently in an "adjustment phase" that's expected to last about a year.
December 9, 2022 Reveal Announcement
Death Stranding 2 was announced at The Game Awards in 2022. Kojima revealed that he'd conceived the original story before the pandemic, but reimagined it to reflect the global impact of COVID-19.

In a 2022 interview with Leo Edit, Norman Reedus hinted at the development of Death Stranding 2. Hideo Kojima playfully responded a few days later, telling Reedus to "Go to your private room," a reference to both the game and a possible punishment for revealing secrets.
