PS VR2 vs PS VR
VR Headset Design & Controller
Compared to its predecessor, the PS VR2 headset has been upgraded with a more modern and comfortable design. Unlike the original PS VR, the PS VR2 has built-in sensors in the headset that detect the player's movements, eliminating the need for a separate camera.
The controllers for PS VR2 have also been improved with a more ergonomic design and advanced haptic feedback. Still, the original PS VR had multiple types of controllers depending on the game.
It's worth noting that the PS VR2 is exclusively designed for the PS5 console, whereas the original PS VR could be used with the PS4 and other devices. While the PS VR can technically be used with the PS5, it's not recommended due to the need for additional equipment.
Resolution & Refresh Rate
The PS VR2 boasts a superior resolution compared to its predecessor, with 2000x2040 pixels per eye as opposed to the original PS VR's 1920x1080 pixels per eye.
Additionally, the PS VR2 has a higher refresh rate of 120Hz compared to the original PS VR's 90Hz, resulting in smoother and more responsive visuals.
Field of View
Compared to the original PS VR, the PS VR2 has a larger field of view with 110 degrees compared to the previous model's 100 degrees. It may sound like a small upgrade, but field of vision matters quite a lot when playing VR games, so this is a welcome change.
PS VR2 is Only Compatible With PS5
It is important to note that the PS VR2 is only compatible with the PlayStation 5 console, while the previous model has more versatility in terms of compatibility.
If you already have a PS5, then you have nothing to worry about, but if you want the latest VR experience and don't have a PS5 ready to go, then this is a much harder sell. You'd have to buy both a PS5 and a PS VR2, not to mention the price of whatever games you want to play.
Is PS VR2 worth buying?
Yes If You Have a PS5, But Wait For A Sale
We understand that the PS VR2 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the PS VR, and new PS VR2 games are being released monthly. However, the price of the PS VR2 is comparable to buying second PS5 console. It's important to keep in mind that you need the PS5 console to use PS VR2, and it is sold separately. It's recommended that you wait for a sale before purchasing the VR set.
Additionally, it's worth noting that although more and more PS VR2 games are being released, the high cost of the VR set means that there are fewer players. As a result, many games are single-player, which highlights how exclusive the VR set is currently. Once the price gets lower, players can get the VR set if they want to. In the meantime, it's recommended that players enjoy PS5 games that doesn't need a VR set to play.
