Xbox has announced its November Update, revealing a host of new features set to "enhance the gaming experience" for players on the platform. Read on to know more about the updates.
Xbox November 2023 Update
The update includes a new Compact Mode for Windows players, Japanese language support for virtual keyboards on consoles, a Gaming Services Repair Tool, and various other tweaks.
Console Wishlist Notifications for Xbox Free Play Days
One notable addition is the introduction of console wishlist notifications for Xbox Free Play Days. If a game on a player's wishlist is part of Xbox Free Play Days, a notification will inform them that the game is available to play for a limited time.
Xbox Free Play Days is a promotion by Xbox that allows Xbox Game Pass Core (fka Xbox Live Gold) and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play selected games for free over a specific weekend or period. During Xbox Free Play Days, players can access and enjoy the full version of the chosen games without purchasing them.
Japanese Language Support
The update introduces Japanese language support for physical and virtual keyboards on consoles. Players can now select specific keyboard layouts for Japanese keyboards. For example, players can choose between the 106/109 keyboard layout for Japanese or the 101/102 English keyboard layout.
Compact Mode for Windows Devices
Compact Mode is a new feature available for all Windows devices, including handhelds like the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. This mode enhances provides a more intuitive user interface on smaller screens, collapsing the sidebar into icons.
Xbox has stated that it is partnering with ASUS and other manufacturers to ensure that Compact mode is enabled by default on handheld devices.
Additional Updates
Also included are other minor updates, such as changes in notifications and banners. Microsoft is also offering phone authentication for users redeeming rewards using their consoles. Xbox also adds the new "Gaming Services Repair Tool," a dedicated tool to fix any issues with Gaming Services or missing content when launching the Xbox app on PC.
Xbox Wireless Controller Firmware Update
The firmware update addresses bug fixes to enable Shift mode for keyboard mapping on Elite Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controllers through the Xbox Accessories app. Additionally, a fix is provided for players whose controllers failed to receive a previous firmware update.
