The Final Four Battle It Out

Image

Starting off as a pool of 20 professional Puzzle & Dragons players, they all tested their wit and might in Puzzle & Dragons in a bid to be the game’s No. 1 player. However, four among the 20 participants have risen above the rest, all sharing the same goal—the Champion title.

These four players were then pitted against each other in a four-way real-time battle, each forming a team of five units from a pool of 35 different monsters. The players will then challenge certain dungeons, and their total score in each match will determine their ranking. Total score consists of three factors: progression speed, or how quickly the player clears the dungeon, the matching bonus, and average combo score or damage dealt. The finalists will compete against each other by clearing the said dungeon in a battle of speed, wit, and strategy!

There will be six matches in total, each with a unique dungeon chosen randomly from six dungeons with different challenges.

The finalists for this year’s Champion Cup are Ru-ya, Refresh, Hirona, and Kaito. The first round saw Kaito as the winner and Hirona finishing close as the runner-up. Both Ru-ya and Refresh failed to clear the dungeon, which ended up affecting their score heavily and landed them in 3rd and 4th place, respectively.

For the second round, all four players were able to clear the dungeon. However, Hirona was able to capitalize on the bonus points to get himself the win and land him in first place in the meantime. The third round dungeon placed an emphasis on getting combos for maximum points as the base score is important for this round. All four players almost chose the exact same lineup, where Kaito and Ru-ya had the exact same party. Kaito, Hirona, and Ru-ya cleared the stage while Refresh ran out of time—Hirona stayed in first place for the 3rd round after taking two bonuses for himself. The commentators even praised Hirona and Kaito for their amazing plays.

For the fourth round, the match played out similarly to the third, where Kaito finished the dungeon first and Hirona took two out of three score bonuses, which led to him staying on top for the third time in a row. This time around, it was Kaito and Hirona with the same lineup. The two top contenders were definitely battling it out in more ways than one.

In the fifth round, the players were tasked with clearing a well-balanced but challenging dungeon—if you can clear this dungeon, you are considered a good player. This dungeon also awards additional points for being able to defeat the monster in one turn. Unfortunately, Kaito got a Game Over after losing all his HP which resulted in giving him a 30-second penalty. Hirona still sat on his first-place throne, and Ru-ya climbed up to second place after this round.

The sixth and final dungeon puts an emphasis on being able to match the orbs in a special way and gives you bonus points as a result. All four players cleared the dungeon, and Kaito took first place despite Refresh clearing the dungeon first.

After all those exciting matches, it was finally time to crown the three winners of the tournament.

Third Place, Refresh
