The Outer Worlds 2 will not be $80 after all, as Microsoft makes it $10 cheaper. Read on to learn more about the game’s pricing changes and how fans who already pre-ordered the game can get their refund.
The Outer Worlds 2 Pricing Changes
Now Priced at $69.99
The Outer Worlds 2 will not be Microsoft’s first $80 title after all, as the studio stated that its pricing will now be lowered due to public demand. In a Twitter (X) post on July 23, developer Obsidian Entertainment announced that the game will now only cost $69.99.
It was previously reported that The Outer Worlds 2 will be Xbox’s first $80 title following Microsoft’s increase in prices across all future titles and consoles. However, it appears that the gaming giant has taken note of the public’s sentiments and adhered to their demands.

Staying true to the game’s narrative and world, the post reads, "We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2."
It’s unclear what this move means to their original plans of releasing $80 titles in the future, but fans can take a sigh of relief for now as Obsidian’s highly anticipated sequel will not be the start of Microsoft’s policy.
Refunds for Pre-Orders

Following their announcement, Obsidian released an article on their website discussing how fans will receive refunds after pre-ordering the game with its original price. There will be different processes on each storefront on how they will approach these adjustments, which the studio has detailed in their post.
For those who pre-ordered on Steam, fans will receive a notification via email to have their balance refunded to their Steam account. Meanwhile, Battle.net pre-orders for the standard edition will be cancelled, and fans must pre-order again for the new price point.
Those who pre-ordered on Xbox/Windows, the full $80 will take effect at launch, and a $10 refund will be given after the game's release. Furthermore, PlayStation customers will be notified via email to inform them of the refund to their PlayStation wallet.

It is important to note that as of writing, all prices for the Digital Premium edition remain at $99.99 on all digital storefronts. Fans applauded Obsidian and Microsoft’s decision to lower the game’s base price, but some remain adamant that it should be reduced even further.
With this new update in pricing and Obsidian’s dedication to making decisions in the game matter more, players anticipate another classic from the beloved sci-fi RPG series. The Outer Worlds 2 is set to release on October 29 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
