Nintendo Switch 2 Day One Dilemmas
Punctured Screens Due to Staples
The long-awaited release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been marred for some fans, who are receiving damaged units. Fans are sharing their day-one experiences across social media platforms after discovering that the receipts stapled to their Switch 2 box have punctured the device’s screen.
Over at Twitter, user Oadhan Lynch posted on June 5 and showed images of his damaged Switch 2. The post reads, "@gamestop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box. FML." Similar experiences happened to other fans, particularly those who purchased their systems from a specific GameStop retailer in Staten Island, NY, USA.
GameStop immediately addressed the issue and posted an update on Twitter (X) on June 6. They stated that these unique cases of staples damaging Switch 2 screens were isolated to only one store. GameStop said, "Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated."
Replacements have been dished out, at least for Oadhan Lynch on Twitter (X), as they made another post on June 6 where they showed their brand-new Switch 2. They said that the GameStop branch with the staple issues "came in clutch" to provide new units for those who have been affected by the incident.
Questionable Packaging
Although most of the blame regarding the staple issue is geared towards the employees of that specific GameStop branch, fans also questioned Nintendo’s packaging of the Switch 2. Many shared the same sentiment that it was "packaged without thought," which put the units at risk of getting easily damaged.
Twitter (X) user Jason posted on June 5 and pointed out this surprising discovery, and predicted that there may be more reports on damaged screens in the coming days. His post reads, "I knew this would happen - it was a weird decision by Nintendo to have the screen sit face-side-up at the very top of the box with only the thin cardboard to protect it."
Inside the Switch 2's cardboard packaging, the console's main unit is placed at the front, with its screen facing outside. There is no cushion or protective layer between the screen and the box, which makes it possible even for staple wires to puncture the device.

This is baffling, considering Nintendo themselves noted to fans to take extra care of the game’s screen. A few days ago, Nintendo of Europe released the official Nintendo Switch 2 Health and Safety manual on their website. The manual clearly states that users must not remove the screen’s protective film layer, which is designed to prevent fragments from scattering in the event of damage.
There are still reports of the same problems being shared on the internet, and Nintendo has yet to provide a statement regarding the recent issues. Regardless, many are still flocking to their local retailers to obtain their brand-new Switch 2.
