Nintendo has reportedly filed a new, mysterious 24GHz wireless device with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) last week. The "wireless device" that Nintendo had submitted to the FCC seems to be different than that of the long-awaited Switch 2. Filed as "CLO-001 model number," it is currently unclear exactly what type of device Nintendo has up in its sleeves—whether it's a gaming console, gaming peripheral, or otherwise—but it's understood to be a completely new product.

Likewise, it seems Nintendo has pushed to comply with "Radio technical requirements" for the newly filed wireless device. However, the wireless device appeared to not contain Bluetooth or 5GHz Wi-radio capabilities. The documents did indicate that it operates using a 24Ghz mmWave sensor, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio, and needs to be plugged in via USB-C for power. The use of mmWave sensor could indicate that this wireless device may be used for object detection, as well as image sensing and navigation.

According to TechTarget online, mmWaves, predominantly used for devices capable of 5G connectivity, is "used for wireless high-speed communications." Several months ago, Nintendo filed a patent covering a device used for "Image display system, image display method," as well as detailing a "goggle-type device." However, it's unclear whether these two filings are connected to each other.
