Nintendo Switch 2 is Out Now!
Day One Update Required

Nintendo Switch 2 is now available worldwide, but players need to do one more thing before they can enjoy the console’s features. Unless fans just want an expensive paperweight at their desk, they need to update their Switch 2 to start playing games.
Nintendo announced on their official website on June 5 that Version 20.1.1 is now available, which opens up significant aspects of the next-gen handheld. The following features include the following:
● Use of compatible Nintendo Switch software
● Nintendo Switch Online
● GameChat
● GameShare
● System transfer from Nintendo Switch
● Virtual game cards
● Nintendo eShop
● News
● Upload of screenshots and videos to the server - Nintendo Switch App on a smart device is needed to view and download screenshots and videos uploaded to the server
● Link with the smart device apps Nintendo Switch Parental Controls and Nintendo Switch App
Nintendo has yet to release the update’s file size, but some fans online have reported that the patch is quite hefty and would require some time to finish.
Keeping the Console Under Wraps Until Launch

Nintendo has made a concerted effort to keep its next-gen console under wraps until its launch date. With the day-one patch being required to use the device’s features, it’s clear that the company is trying its best to prevent leaks from happening.
Recently, VGC spoke with a Nintendo spokesperson on June 3 and confirmed that there will be no pre-launch Switch 2 reviews. They said that the press will not receive Switch 2 units ahead of launch, as it will require "important features and updates" that will only be available on the device’s day-one patch. This limited the public’s access to the device before its launch, decreasing the chance of leaks.

Furthermore, Nintendo’s new approach to physical game copies with Game-Key cards strengthens their security, making it harder for hackers and the like to breach game files. Compared to the previous game cards used for the original Switch, these new Game-Key cards do not contain the full game data. According to Nintendo, "the game-key card is your 'key' to downloading the full game to your console via the internet." After downloading, they will function as a regular game would in the console.
Given that the Switch 2 is one of the most hyped console releases in recent memory, Nintendo made sure to give fans the best launch experience by limiting potential leaks. However, the day-one experience for others has been ruined due to some units having damaged screens because of staple punctures. Regardless, fans are still lining up outside their local retailers to grab Nintendo’s latest console.
