Our team checked the Japanese website and press release and discovered some new additions to the upcoming Super Mario RPG Remake. Read on to learn more about monster details, triple move attacks, and more!

Super Mario RPG Japanese Gameplay Information

With the release date of Super Mario RPG quickly approaching, a myriad of new information from different Nintendo channels has been appearing one after another. The information released by these channels often differs, allowing players to piece together a grand puzzle by combining details from every source. However, the most abundant source of information, Nintendo's Japanese channels, is perhaps the most inaccessible due to language barriers. That's why we at Game8 have taken to the recent press release and the official Japanese website to translate and deliver this information to the players.

Super Mario RPG New Features

Monster Details

Image

According to the Japanese Press Release, Super Mario RPG Remake will provide you with access to a monster's data. Although this doesn't seem to include numerical combat data such as Attack and Defense values, it provides essential details such as the elements and status effects they are weak to, what items they drop, and the locations they can be found in.
The monster menu includes the following data:

 ●  HP
 ●  Experience Points
 ●  Effective Elements
 ●  Effective Status Conditions
 ●  Dropped Items
 ●  Dropped Rare Items
 ●  Locations Found
 ●  Number Defeated
 ●  Psychopath Text
 ●  Fun Facts About The Monster

The release also noted that information is filled in as you investigate each monster. Additionally, Psychopath Text is included among the information you can unlock. This likely means you'll have to use Psychopath, a special technique that Mallow learns to view an enemy’s HP, on a monster to obtain this data.

Sound Player

Upon completing the game for the first time, this feature will be unlocked and can be used to listen to the game's tracks from both the Switch and the SNES versions. Some tracks are also locked, necessitating you to collect or unlock them yourself. Conditions may vary, perhaps including having to just hear it once. However, the press release mentions that players would have to figure out how to unlock the tracks, so there might be ones that need specific requirements.

Triple Move Attacks

Image

Combination skills known as Triple Move Attacks are a feature available depending on which characters are active on your party. Using these powerful moves require filling up the gauge located at the bottom left of the combat screen. This will naturally recover as combat progresses and the player successfully pulls off Timed Action Commands, defending, etc.

A few Triple Move Attacks are shown on the Japanese website that aren't included in English info releases. These include:

Move Users Description
Invincible Spike Shell Mario, Peach, Bowser Uses a Star to make an Invincible Shell and hits all enemies with it.
Star Riders Mario, Mallow, Geno Hits all enemies with a combo attack using the power of the Star Pieces.
Protecting Veil Mario, Peach, Geno Creates a shining light veil to protect the party from any attacks.
Spark-Freeze-Fire Big Bomb Mario, Mallow, Bowser The one shown in the Nintendo Direct clip. Deals Thunder, Fire, and Ice damage that targets all enemies in battle.

Note that the names and descriptions might be different from the official localized version.

Miscellaneous Additions and Other Tidbits

Other details included in the Press Release discuss various options that have been added to the game. These include:

 ●  Switch between walking and dashing.
 ●  Switch between battle button arrangements (Type A/B options)
 ●  Battle selection skip (which is perhaps an Auto-Battle feature)
 ●  Ability to save at any point outside of a battle
 ●  A help menu was added to both in and out-of-battle menus under "Other Actions." Defend and Run battle options included.

The official website also has an image of the game's map with eight central locations highlighted. It looks quite pretty, and there's a striking yet exciting contrast between the spring-like colors used for the areas to the south of the map and the ominous doom-and-gloom theme used in the northern areas.
