Stardew Valley's latest patch update has caused innocent chickens to straight up just disappear. Developer Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, has addressed the curious disappearance of the chickens.
Stardew Valley Creator Explains Why Chickens Disappear in Update
It's The Coyotes. But Actually It's A Bug, But We Are Going With The Coyote Lore
Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone rolled out a surprise update, patch 1.6.9, following the release of Stardew Valley's much-awaited big 1.6 update for consoles and mobile, which was previously only rolled out for PC. Patch 1.6.9 was released alongside 1.6, with the latest patch including tweaks, fixes, and updates, on top of new content. However, 1.6.9 had also caused an unexpected bug that made chickens disappear from their coops—which Barone jokingly chalks up to being related to in-game lore that has to do with a wild coyote. Rest assured, the dev is working on fixing the bug causing the chickens' disappearance. Players reported the issue they encountered in the Meadowlands Farm where chickens would just straight up disappear if the chicken coop's door is left open on Day 1.
"PSA: there is currently an issue, if you start a new farm on the meadowlands farm and open the animal door on the coop day 1, your chickens will disappear," Barone shared on Twitter (X). "If you leave the door closed for one day, it should save them. We will fix this. Lore: There is a wild coyote on the farm day 1 rn"
Stardew Valley also shared a changelog that lists new content players can expect following 1.6.9's rollout:
・If you lost an item that can’t be found again, a new friend appears in the secret woods who can get it back (for a price).
・You can now put legendary fish in fish ponds. These are limited to one per pond and produce legendary fish roe. Each fish has a unique water color.
・You can now place beds and sleep inside any constructed buildings that allow furniture.
・Items dropped in water now float for a short time, so you can collect them if you’re quick or have a magnet ring.
・Sam and Shane now have work portraits while working at JojaMart.
・Slightly tweaked some dialogues.
・Added new Easter eggs.
・Added hidden cheat commands. (Only on platforms where a save edit is possible)
Apart from the new content and updates, an array of gameplay fixes, balance and quality-of-life changes, and technical tweaks were implemented. The game can now automatically recover most saves if they’re broken, corrupted, or missing the SaveGameInfo file, and tweaks have been implemented to the save process to reduce the chance of corruption.
Back to the coyotes. It seems that Stardew Valley's player community was particularly amused with the coyote lore Barone concocted. "I’d adopt the crap out of a coyote. Just saying," one player said in reply to Barone's tweet. Numerous players seemed to entertain the idea of actual "wild coyote lore" being part of Stardew Valley and the curious disappearance of chickens. However, the dev has not commented on a follow-up to any potential coyote lore drop, but players might as well keep their fingers crossed as anything can be turned into reality in this game—like being able to drink mayo.
