Insomniac Games Looks For More Game-To-Screen Adaptations

Insomniac Games, developers of Ratchet and Clank, shared that the company is interested in adapting more of their games into movies. The comment came from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider during an interview with Variety on Wednesday, after the announcement of founder and long-time CEO Ted Price’s retirement.

"I think back to the Ratchet and Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular." Schneider said.

A Ratchet and Clank film was released in 2016 but received mixed reviews. With Insomniac Games being acquired by Sony in 2019, Insomniac is confident in their future plans for game-to-screen adaptations, given Sony’s success in adapting games into film and TV, with The Last of Us especially garnering widespread acclaim.

With Insomniac Games expressing their interest in creating game-to-screen adaptations of their titles, Sony has proven their capabilities in adapting games into film or TV. Sony has successfully adapted several game titles to movies or series, such as the Uncharted film in 2022, and the Last of Us TV series in 2023.

Sony also announced more projects to come in the recent CES 2025 press conference. Firstly, The Last of Us Season 2 will be airing on HBO on April 2025. There is also an upcoming Until Dawn live-action film on April 2025. Meanwhile, the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series is coming to Crunchyroll in 2027. A Helldivers feature film and Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film is also in the works, but no target release date has been revealed.

Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price Retires After 30 Years

Along with the interview of Insomniac’s co-Studio Heads, Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price announced his retirement after three decades. Insomniac Games is the studio behind classic video game franchises such as "Spyro the Dragon,", "Ratchet & Clank,", and "Marvel’s Spiderman". Price shares that "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team."

Taking over the company are 3 Insomniac veterans working together as Co-Studio Heads: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang. Upon sharing this, Price said that "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
