Star Wars Outlaws News

2025

September 9

⚫︎ Ubisoft will be releasing a free Star Wars Outlaws demo for the Nintendo Switch 2.The company has also confirmed that the title will run at up to 30FPS in both docked and handheld mode.

September 5

⚫︎ Ubisoft has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 release of Star Wars Outlaws will ship as a Game-Key Card rather than a full cartridge. The developer explained the decision was driven by storage speed limitations, not cost. Game-Key Cards act as download keys rather than storing the game itself, which has raised concerns among players about long-term access if Nintendo’s servers are ever shut down.

August 8

⚫︎ Star Wars Outlaws 2 cancellation rumors have been circulating, prompting fans to push back with a petition that’s quickly gaining traction. More than a thousand fans have already signed the petition in the hope that Ubisoft can see the value in a second installment. On the Change.org webpage, the petition starter wrote, "Technical issues and performance problems at launch led to low reviews and frustration. Many players gave up before seeing the improvements that came later."

"Look at games like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077. Both had rocky beginnings. But what made them success stories was the commitment from developers to listen to the community and improve the game over time," the petition read. "Now those titles have strong, loyal fan bases. Star Wars Outlaws has that same potential."

July 20

⚫︎ Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot addressed the underwhelming sales of Star Wars Outlaws during a recent shareholder meeting, attributing part of its poor performance to the Star Wars brand being in "choppy waters" at the time of release.

June 25

⚫︎ Ubisoft has rolled out Update 1.7 for Star Wars Outlaws, addressing a wide range of bugs and refining the open-world experience. The patch, ranging from 1.96 to 3.67 GB depending on platform, continues the studio’s post-launch commitment to improving the game after a rocky 2024 debut. The update includes fixes for gameplay issues like weapons spawning without ammo, problems with cover mechanics, and fast travel bugs. It also resolves quest progression blockers across multiple locations including Toshara, Tatooine, and Akiva. Improvements were made to UI, accessibility options, and story pack content, such as fixing missing crosshair settings and animation prompts.

This patch is part of ongoing updates, as Ubisoft prepares for the Switch 2 port of Outlaws, aiming to deliver a smoother, more polished Star Wars experience for all players.

April 18

⚫︎ Ubisoft has confirmed that the game's story DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune, arrives May 15 across all other platforms. The expansion follows Kay Vess and her companion Nix as they team up with fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka in a treasure-hunting adventure involving the Khepi Tomb and the Miyuki Trade League.

The DLC is part of the Season Pass or available standalone, and requires completion of the base game. A free update will also bring Star Wars: Skeleton Crew-themed cosmetics, while Ultimate and Deluxe Edition owners get additional cosmetic packs. A new playable demo of Star Wars Outlaws is now available on most platforms, offering three hours of gameplay (progress does not carry over). Ubisoft has not yet confirmed if the DLC will be available at launch for the Switch 2 version.

April 2

⚫︎ Ubisoft has announced that Star Wars Outlaws is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Originally released in 2024 for other platforms, the open-world Star Wars title will join the Switch 2 library with full support for the new hardware. No specific release date has been given yet.

2024

November 21

⚫︎ Ubisoft released the first story DLC for Star Wars Outlaws, titled Wild Card, nearly three months after the game's launch. Available as part of the Season Pass or for separate purchase, the DLC follows protagonist Kay Vess as she infiltrates a high-stakes Sabacc tournament and encounters Lando Calrissian. Additionally, the game makes its debut on Steam, alongside the release of the new version 1.4 update, which removes stealth failure from most quest objectives. This move also marks a backtrack on Ubisoft's earlier decision to exclude the game from third party providers, with the title now available on the platform alongside all previous updates.

November 5

⚫︎ Ubisoft's first major post-launch update for Star Wars Outlaws was announced by the game's new Creative Director, Drew Rechner, on November 21, coinciding with the game's debut on Steam and the release of the first DLC. In a message to the community, Rechner thanked players for their support and valuable feedback, highlighting improvements made in response to player concerns about combat, stealth, and controls. The update, described as the "biggest yet," follows three earlier patches that fixed bugs, refined mission dynamics, and improved the speeder camera and collision mechanics.

September 9

⚫︎ Ubisoft had hoped Star Wars Outlaws would bolster its financial standing, but the game's sales have so far underperformed, causing a drop in the company's share price on September 3. Despite positive critical reviews, the game has failed to meet sales expectations, with J.P. Morgan analyst Daniel Kerven lowering his forecast from 7.5 million to 5.5 million units by March 2025. Ubisoft had positioned Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows as key value drivers for the company’s future, aiming to revitalize its financial outlook. While the company reported a 15% increase in session days and a 7% year-on-year growth in monthly active users, the sluggish sales of Outlaws have raised concerns about the effectiveness of its strategy.

August 13

⚫︎ Star Wars Outlaws revealed its post-launch roadmap, outlining upcoming content for the game's Season Pass. The roadmap features two major story packs, available for both Season Pass holders and standalone purchase. At launch, Season Pass owners will gain access to the Kessel Runner character pack, offering new outfits for protagonist Kay Vess and her companion Nix, as well as the exclusive "Jabba's Gambit" mission. This mission allows players to explore the Hutt Cartel’s underworld in greater depth, focusing on a quest related to ND-5's debt to Jabba the Hutt.

August 1

⚫︎ In a 2024 interview with GamesRadar+, Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty revealed that his biggest inspiration for the game was the samurai action title Ghost of Tsushima. Gerighty praised the game's immersive world-building and seamless integration of story, world, and gameplay, aiming to replicate this level of immersion in Star Wars Outlaws. He wanted players to feel like they were truly living the life of an outlaw in the Star Wars universe, much like Ghost of Tsushima allowed players to fully experience the samurai's journey.

2023

August 7

⚫︎ Ubisoft announced in 2023 that Star Wars Outlaws would not be available on Steam or the Epic Games Store, opting for their own platform, Ubisoft Connect, for PC sales instead. This decision follows Ubisoft's dissatisfaction with Steam's revenue-sharing model, which they have criticized for taking a 30% cut of game sales. Previously, Ubisoft had experimented with Epic Games Store exclusivity, but now aims to have more control over distribution and profits, making Ubisoft Connect the sole storefront for the Star Wars title.
