A dedicated Skyrim fan has recreated most of the game’s map in the famed medieval RTS, Age of Empires 2. Read on to learn more about this amazing feat, which parts of the Skyrim map were included, and what each map is capable of.
Skyrim Maps and Buildings Recreated in AoE 2 by Dedicated Fan
Redditor and hardcore Skyrim fan Grouchy_Bluejay4511, henceforth referred to as Grouchy, managed to recreate some of Skyrim’s most iconic buildings and settlements in Age of Empires 2. Though the maps aren’t one-to-one recreations of the ones from Skyrim, Grouchy was still able to capture the spirit, layout, and aesthetics of each map to an astonishing degree.
Post Blows Up in Respective Subreddits
The post was initially uploaded to the r/Skyrim and r/aoe2 subreddits on October 22, 2023. The post blew up in the Skyrim subreddit, garnering 3.5k upvotes and over a hundred comments within 2 days.
The post was unfortunately removed from the Age of Empires 2 subreddit by its mods for unknown reasons. The post garnered a single upvote before its deletion. Still,Grouchy would later post the initial set of maps on the same subreddit a day later.
Follow-up Post Brings in New Tide of AoE 2 Recreations
A follow-up post by Grouchy featured seven more Skyrim maps recreated in Age of Empires 2, this time featuring Castle Volkihar, Eastmarch, Lake Ilinalta, Dushnikh Yal, and Winterhold. This post was met with a colder reception than the previous one, but the excitement and speculation in the comments section would indicate that this is due to its freshness rather than its quality.
Each Map Has Full Quest Functionality
Map creator Grouchy commented under their first post that each map "Has 50+ quests, 100 unique characters and you can play as one of the Holds vying for control of Skyrim". Age of Empires 2 fans were ecstatic to hear that the maps were not just for show. One can only assume that the second wave of maps has the same functionality, as the creator did not confirm it with their second post.
Players looking to try the maps will have to wait just a little bit longer. Grouchy said they are checking the maps for bugs and should have them on the Steam Mod Page for Age of Empires 2 by Saturday, October 28, 2023.
