Silent Hill f "When They Cry" References
Hinako’s Name and Others Were Umineko References

Silent Hill f character names were direct references to Ryukishi07’s other famous work, Umineko When They Cry. During a livestream playthrough of Silent Hill f on December 22, Game Writer Ryukishi07 shared some trivia that fans have yet to know about the horror title.
According to him, fans should have noticed by now that some of the names of the main characters in the game were based on names from Umineko When They Cry. The writer noted that the names Hinako, Rinko, and Sakuko were referenced from Hin, Rin, and Saku from Umineko.
Ryukishi07 admitted that the characters’ names were never intended to be permanent, and explained, "To be completely honest, these were only placeholder names to me, and I originally wanted to give them much cooler names later." While he hasn't revealed what those original ideas were, the final choices serve as a perfect—if unintentional—nod to his previous work, much to the delight of longtime fans.
Iconic Higurashi Weapon Scrapped In Silent Hill f

Aside from character names, other influences from Ryukishi07’s series were supposed to be included in Silent Hill f. In an interview with Dengeki Online on December 17, Game Director Al Yang stated that there was one particular weapon from Higurashi When They Cry that they wanted to include, but didn’t make it into their game.
"There was talk of putting the hatchet that Rena Ryugu has in Higurashi no Nari quite early on in this work. Although I tried it, I had to keep in mind that everything in the work has a meaning and that everything has a proper meaning and exists in the work when it comes to Silent Hill, so unfortunately, it was rejected," the director said.

While these callbacks are great to highlight the creators’ previous works, the developers are keen to push the series into exploring other cultures worldwide. With Silent Hill stepping out of its typical Western setting for Silent Hill f, it opens up more possibilities to try out other regions and countries for future titles of the horror franchise.
