Rise of the Ronin Was Announced at the PlayStation State of Play Event
Releasing March 22, 2024
Rise of the Ronin was just revealed at the PlayStation State of Play event. The game features open-world ARPG gameplay set in Japan during the Bakumatsu period way back in the 19th century. You’ll be able to experience samurai combat and interact with historical Japanese figures, with the choices you make and the alliances you form affecting what’s in store for you in the future.
Gameplay
In the trailer, you can see the protagonist exploring a beautiful Yokohama from a couple of hundred years ago. For movement, you could walk, run, or mount your horse. Aerial movement consists of going up buildings using a grappling hook, launching yourself in the air, and gliding through the skies using the Avicula, a Leonardo Da Vinci-type glider.
Combat
As a ronin, your main weapon is your trusty katana, which you’ll use to slice up enemies, parry and block attacks, and unleash beautifully fluid combos. However, you could also use your grappling hook as a weapon, along with some handguns from overseas or long spears to keep them at bay.
The more you develop your relationship with Igashichi, a Japanese inventor, the more weaponized inventions he’ll let you use, like the Fire Pipe, which acts as a makeshift 19th-century flamethrower.
